I think this is true.
My sample size. When i am in university, there were 4 girls from mathale, All 4 of them were pretty good looking, and 2 of them were drop dead gorgeous.

Kandy was already colonized by the Portuguese and Dutch by then..

It is true though what you are saying about the Sun's effect.. eg coastal area right around the equator..

Knox came to SL during Dutch era..

Kandy was already colonized by the Portuguese and Dutch by then..

It is true though what you are saying about the Sun's effect.. eg coastal area right around the equator..

Even British couldn't "conquer" Kandy and only because betrayals and internal struggles (and cunning nature of Brits) Kandy was eventually handed over.
Portuguese and Dutch affected areas (they were not necessarily colonies) were mainly near sea lines not in the mountains. That's why still there are large Catholic/Christian population in areas like Negombo.

There are could have been very small number of "very fair skinned" families due to mixing with foreigners by then. But that number should have been very small. Sinhalese were traditionally didn't like mixing with someone from different religion let alone a different country in the past. (Still that's the case even today specially with higher caste.)

මේ වගෙ පැතිවල කෙල්ලො ලස්සන වෙන්ඩ සුදු ජාන මිශ්‍රවීමත් හේතුවක් වෙන්න ඇති.ඒත් අමතක කරන්න එපා මහනුවර රාජධානි සමය කියන්නෙ ඉන්දියාවෙන් රාජබිසව්වරු ,කුමාරිකාවො import කරපු කාලයක් කියන එක.
