Indeed, that is precisely what I am alluding to. In the absence of concrete evidence, there often exists an element of fabrication. Hence, as previously mentioned, the question of when and to whom the Abhidhamma was imparted remains a matter of faith and tradition.
The Abhidhamma primarily encompasses knowledge and the technical understanding of how the mind operates in accordance with Buddhist principles. In contrast, the Noble Eightfold Path serves as a method to attain a state of mind known as nibbana. The manner in which individuals adhere to the Noble Eightfold Path varies significantly; some may require more assistance in unraveling its intricacies as presented in the Sutta Pitaka, while others may not. Drawing from personal experience, this is where the Abhidhamma assumes a crucial role in elucidating certain aspects. Consequently, I hesitate to label it as unnecessary, as its utility hinges on the individual's needs and perspectives.
