I've actually had that happen to me and it's usually when I have two windows open and I log out of the site from one window, then come back and try doing something in the other window that was open (forgetting that I had logged out). Where you say it happened during a board lag, perhaps you didn't click the remember me button OR you were automatically logged out by the site?? Or even still, because there was a lag, it didn't recognize something? Not real sure, but like I said, it's happened to me because I've left a window open and think I'm logged in when I'm actually not.
