Because The Oath of Allegiance of USA and Oath of President of Sri Lanka opens a can of worm that will bring court case after court case from both countries.

So as per the oath of allegiance a US citizen can become an MP but not the president, right ?

Actually no. Basil's US citizenship can be revoked now if an USA citizen file a court case in USA but Basil can prove that he didn't commit treason because everything he did, it damaged Sri Lanka. But he gave an oath as the finance minister (if he did) that questions his allegiance to USA. But become the president and everything you do will be questioned by both countries. If USA declares war on SL at some point then we will automatically lose the president. So being a dual citizen and the president of country at the same time is not that simple as you may think it is.

True. SJP is bringing the 21st amendment to the parliament in the next couple of days ne. If they manage to pass it kohomath Basil ge MP kama questionable wei kiyala hithenawa. Anyway now all these amendments have made the current constitution a big flexible whore imho. It's high time Sri Lanka come up with a new constitution ffs.
