Airtel does NOT own any of its towers or equipment. They work on an outsourced model. The NSS and BSS of Airtel network is owned and operated by Huawei. Huawei performed a full managed service for Airtel and got paid per erlang basis (paid according to voice and data usage).

Airtel did not lose anything by this transaction. They didn't own anything except the spectrum license. They in fact gained a lot by gaining 10% of Dialog shares.
The loser in this transaction is Huawei. Now they own a large number of devices that they will have to sell off to other operators.
