yeah but,, its more about the trust.. people trust the scientific community than ancient sources..
in ancient times people trusted sages. just like what we do today with scientists. it has always been like that. nobody can investigate every single thing before accepting it. we just have to stand on the shoulders of giants.
they believed in an after life because there were sages who saw it.
we believe gravitational constant has the value it has because there are scientists who tested it.
yeah but the thing is... we cant believe ancient sources more than the scientific community.. so whenever they conflict on a matter its no wonder people take the scientific communities side,
"in ancient times people trusted sages."
look, even this fact u know from ancient sources. which aren't as trustworthy as living present sources imo.
but can we believe scientific community ? didn't they say ocean level will rise and many cities will be under ocean by 2000 ? i've recently came across such a prediction they did in 70s or 80s. it's one of the major points climate change denialist present against todays scientific predictions
im not saying that we should believe what sages said about universe over todays scientific speculations. what i believe is they are 2 different fields with 2 different goals. i think those sages were more accurate in matters like afterlife than todays science and todays science is more accurate in matters like composition of our sun.

well,, im not saying contemporary science is perfect.. just that they are the most reliable source of knowledge we have. And about that sea level rise thing.. its just too complicated isn't it, there are maybe thousands of factors influence the in the occurrence of such outcome.
Anyway those ancient methods were maybe much influential in those times than what science have on our societies today. Also maybe those methods had higher precision in predicting event which were important in "those times". But in this era, with the exponential change in the need of the society i don think those ancient methods have any considerable influence,,
