"I can clearly say that Lord Buddha was NOT born in Sri Lanka.
Many people tend to accept misbelieves like this. May be that is because most of them are more familiar with Ignorance (Moha) rather than knowledge of Dhamma or wisdom.
From time to time these kind of misleading ideas appear, deforming the true teachings of Lord Buddha with bogus evidences. Only the wise can filter the truth, but unfortunately others will fill their minds with myth, thus wasting a rare chance which could be used to end this suffering.
Sri Lankans use to give names like ‘Jetavanaramaya’ to temples here. This does not mean that ‘Ane Pindu Situ Thuma’ built his monastery in Sri Lanka.
There are many Buddhist sacred places in India and Nepal. We can see models of these sacred places (Like ‘Buddha Gaya’) even in ‘Mahiyanganaya’. Luckily they were built very recently when President Premadasa was in office. Otherwise these could also be used to deceive general public. May be this will happen in about 100-200 years when there are no one to explain the true origin of these buildings.
If their idea is true, whole Buddhist canon (Tipitaka) should be regenerated, which can only be done by a ‘Bagyavat Arahat Samma Sambuddha’. In this case they will have to wait until next Lord Buddha is born, to start their path to Nibbana.
The truth is, Pure Theravada Dhamma is still existing in it’s original form in Theravada Tipitaka. The wise will accept it and follow. Only they will utilize the true teachings of Lord Buddha.
