23 SRi and 29 Sri buses were made out of Lorry Chassis and not suitable for transport of humans . They are very unconfortable. Used for cheap low cost production. Later due to corruption making the body for local buses stopped. UK government assisted us to have a new factory for Dupel Metsec body making but again this also was not successful due to some malpractices of the management. The body was Aluminium mix and better than the earlier body . So this left with no option but to import from India. Dimo and Ceylinco(Colomborider) also tried and failed and made massive losses in their venture to make sri lankan bodies to imported chassis. Intial Dimo used Benz chassis and Colombo Rider Opel chassis. No need to say about the prices ! so both shifted to Indian made chassis in no time but could not survive.
