I start by saying that I'm not racist and I love our muslim brothers and sisters, but WTF is going on.
Why on earth you need two different laws for two races (or whatever you want to call it). I thought the whole point of calling us sri lankans instead of sinhalese, tamil or muslims is because we all are human beings under a single flag. Don't you people understand that this kind of stupid and ignorant sh*t is going to divide us even further.
I saw that a couple of muslim brothers (or sisters) try to convince that we need not panic because these laws are only applicable to muslims. For all I know any, anybody can change religion. I can call myself a hindu (or even a crazy Scientologist like Tom Cruise) for a couple of minutes and fall back in to Buddhism (don't have to inform any authority) and that is a freedom enjoyed by every Sri Lankan. So my question, can anyone who is about to be punished by this court declare that he changed his religion? what happens then? E.g. People said that this is to settle marriage and divorce cases. So if you were Muslim when you got married, can you change your religion and appeal for a divorce in a regular court? If not, what happens to your right of choice over religion? And if they can change religion and appeal in a normal court, why the F you need a special court for Muslims (seems like a huge f***ing waste of tax money)
If a muslim couple feel that they should live by the word of god, do so by all means. If god says don't divorce, then don't. But if you still need to get it, then go to the regular courts.
I have utmost respect for other religions and I believe everyone should have the right to freedom of religion. But you need to draw the f***ing line when it comes to the law (and your religion shouldn't be a factor, at least in the eye of the civilized world).
I'm not angry because I'm a Buddhist, but a Sri Lankan who prefers to think rationally.
