both commandos and special forces men who are based outside of their designated camps are permitted to grow their beards. The cream of the crop from Commando regiment are based at airport and Gannemulla camp should a serious counter terror response situ. arise. Also they protect the army chief. However with the current situation the commandos have been "relived" of this task fearing reprisal. It's not accurate to compare commando's to SF-- they both have specific tasks which are sometimes similar but specialized in there own ways.... for example SF combat rider teams ride in hard to access terrain. Commando rider teams are more specific for VIP protection. Both units take part in LRRP (Long range Recon Patrols).....

Here is a close protection specialist also airborne qualified (shoulder tab visible) protecting Bill Clinton. He carries a German H &K MP5 sub machine gun. Distinctive black unifrom-- the best of the best in the regiment.....

I think same trooper looking after Charles when he arrived in SL for 50th independence day. Note the camo. uniform x 2 shoulder tab, para wings.... these guys are trained killers and won't think twice to put a bullet square between the ears of anyone who comes withing either their MP5 or Browning HP hand gun....
