Does that mean monks were exempt from this law before AKD came to power? how is that fair?

Besides AKD didn't convict naanasara on contempt of law, AKD didn't overturn the presidential pardon either so IDK how this is somehow his "political revenge scheme"

That's because it's a fking stupid law from 1833, That's why Maithree pardoned Gnanasara, Eknaligoda's LTTE connections and voice notes were leaked out. And who backed Eknaligoda? the same fucking forces who are following NPPs agenda....

On 26 January 2016, the suspects in the case relating to the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda were produced in the Magistrate’s Court of Homagama.

During the proceedings, Gnanasara Thero, who was not a party to the proceedings or a witness, had entered the courtroom and

(i) obstructed the proceedings by beginning to address the Magistrate;
(ii) declared that he would not accept the orders of the Magistrate;
(iii) ordered the Magistrate to grant bail to the suspects; and
(iv) described the Senior State Counsel who was appearing for the prosecution as “an impotent state officer”.

This violent display of verbal threats or open defiance directed at the Magistrate constituted contempt of court.

And who backed Eknaligoda? the same fucking forces who are following NPPs agenda....

Again, neither Eknaligoda nor the "fucking forces who are following NPPs agenda" forced Naanasara to be in contempt of court, he did it on his own.
