You all are in wrong idea. Sri Lanka has agreed to shutdown analog transmission in 2017 according to ITU-T.(other asian countries has given their time line of shutting down of analog) If they move into Digital TV, they have agreed to keep analog transmission for two years alone with digital transmission.
Sri Lanka authorities are planning to go with DVB-T2 (European standard) or ISDB-T (Japanese standard). Already SLRC is doing a trial for ISDB-T with Japan. Test Transmission is already going in SLRC premises.
Digital television is awesome. It save the frequency spectrum as well it transmit in UHF. and we can use our normal UHF antenna. But we have to use Digital to analog converter for our normal TV, which cost around Rs. 2000 to 6000. You can have crystal clear picture qualities.
Now they are planning to have common transmitter system for all the channels in sri lanka. So, we do not need move the antenna every where have best pictures in each channel.
I think every body got rough idea about todays situation of DTV in Sri Lanka. I do not like to confuse you guys giving more on technical on DTV. I will share technology in Digital terrestrial TV system as separate thread.

So what will happen to IP TV and Satellite TV providers?

කැලේ මාරුඋනා කියලා කොටියගෙ පුල්ලි මාරු වෙන්නේ නැහැනේ. ලංකාවේ TV චැනල්වල මොන ලබ්බක්වත් නැහැ වැඩකට ඇති දෙයක්.. මම නම් අවුරුදු 4 කින් විතර tv බලලා නැහැ.
