    In Software industry around the world BCS is accepted equally as a degree. But BIT is only accepted in SL. No big reputation at overseas.

    BCS why bcs?
    BCS is not a academic qualification it is a professional qualification --- Employers prefer professional rather than academic students
    BCS is accepted by UGC so you can do masters in local universities & many universities around the world
    BCS is the ONLY CHARTED INSTITUTE FOR IT IN WORLD!!!
    BCS takes less time comparing to others like SLIIT (BCS2.5Y SLIIT4Y)
    BCS is cost effective comparing to HND & other foreign universities
    BCS has more challenging ways of professional / practical questioning method rather than theory

    GO for BCS because before choosing BCS I had analyzed every possible couse or degree I can do like BIT HND ACS SLIIT NIBM & many in the final I have choose BCS now I am doing the Diploma I am happy about it. But remember BCS is challenging but it is the best. BEST OF LUCK what ever you choose BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :yes::yes::yes::yes:

    Go for BCS. I did BCS around 8 years back. And today I'm working with Software Engineers around the world. Trust me none of my friends who went with BIT made it to where I'm today. They ended up in a government job's and etc.

    The best thing of BCS is that it's widely accepted everywhere around the world and by the time you end course automatically u learn lots of English. Because papers are marked at UK. :)

    I did BCS at ESOFT as a part time student. Only thing i can say is ESOFT simply the best institute for BIT & BCS in sri lanka... Nothing to tell about lecturers as you can feel the difference once you become a student there. Qualified & Experienced Staff with lot of facilities too. It is Number 1 & Leader in professional ICT education...

    According to the book!
    Get the degree and go for an interview.. Specially in a foreign country and see...
    UCSC internal students are highly recognized in industry, but not BIT people.

    I have being working in Software industry for 6 years now.

    Yes! Me and My Friends also agree with you... Esoft is the #1 for IT in Sri Lanka..
    Go for BCS with Esoft..I made the decision 2 years ago and I'm Quite satisfied with the course materials and the quality of the service provided by Esoft.

    completed my BCS diploma last year in SL with Esoft and now I'm doing my final year @ University of Greenwich in UK.
    All I can say is BCS is the best...

    Well, let me put it in to this way. BIT is a highly recognized IT academic qualification all around the local market. On the other hand, BCS is a highly recognized professional qualification which is favoured by employers in international market. At present, employers don't seek for qualifications but for skill and experience. Qualifications only give you an added advantage in your career path.

    What I recommend is, do BCS and choose a path (Software Developing, Networking, Database etc.). Then do vendor certifications related to your path such as CCNA,OCA,OCP,MCP MCSD etc. Those will enrich your value in the IT industry as an employee.

    Current market looks for system administrators rather than "Juki machine" type workers! :rolleyes::lol:

    Well for the institute, I highly recommend ESOFT as I have learnt BCS from it.My time at ESOFT filled me with the technical and business skills that I am using at my Masters today. Well, I just graduated in 2009 Nov and now reading on MSc.Enterprise Systems and Datawarehousing in University of Greenwich.

    @wast123

    Agreed 100% bro,

    The difference between academic (BIT) and professional (BCS) must be first understood. I haven't studied BIT but i can say that BCS is more focused on the industrial needs. It is even more evident when you do Diploma & PGD levels and their exam papers.

    This difference can be seen when a BIT graduate teaches BCS. I've been there and we had to get our lecturer swapped for a BCS qualified one, b'cos the BIT person had no idea the demands of BCS and it was kind of a joke for us to see him/her spill out all the theory as it is.

    But today BCS in itself is not enough. Though it focuses on ethics and industry practices it doesn't cover the depth you may need. Therefore vendor certifications is a must.

    While I was doing BCS @ Esoft, I did the MCITP: Enterprise Admin exam series, covered CCNA syllabus and many other aspects (I did the BCS Plus program). Now i'm happily doing my masters in UK.

    Regards,
    Gayan
