The Katana (samurai sword) is the best sword in the old world, but chinese one are of the good ones, certainly.
The problem is how much you can defend and trust forward the enemy with that sword in an actual chaotic battlefield. They fail when you have no space to move.
The Sinhalese sword (long scimitar) was good because when you swing it, it's hard to tell where it's gonna hit you, although the damage is less and armour puncturing is zero. After 1400's Sinhalese started using the sabre with guard (specially the high class people).
