Nobody proved anything with CKDu... I knew of young doctors who carried out research with foreign teams. Sometimes there are some manifestations which are hard to pinpoint to a single cause or even multifactorial causes.
I will mention one classic case. Have you ever heard of BEN? Balkan Endemic Nephropathy which is essentially a differnt type of CKDu.
For more than 50 years, various factors were suspected - like mycotoxins, metals, viruses, and trace-element insufficiencies.
It's now known that the main cause was chronic dietary exposure to Aristolochic Acid (AA) which is the principal component of Aristolochia clematitis which grows as a weed in wheat fields in the Balkans.
This shows that something we have not yet thought of, is the key driving factor behind the epidemic.
