Official: Southampton loan Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid

    448096_heroa.jpg

Southampton have completed the season-long loan signing of defender Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid.

The Belgium international centre-back, who can also play on the right of the back line, becomes the eighth player recruited by Saints manager Ronald Koeman this summer, who makes room by sending Jos Hooiveld on loan to Norwich City.

The 25-year-old was part of the Atleti side who unexpectedly won La Liga in 2013-14, his first season at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, but made only 12 appearances for Diego Simeone's men.

"I know him very well because he played for some years for Ajax in Holland and he then made a transfer to Atletico Madrid, where he hasn't been playing an awful lot, which is why he was looking for somewhere else to play," Koeman told the club's official website.

"I think our first conversation was four or five days ago and I told him about our plans, about the ambition of the club and about how we play.

"He is a strong defender and is also very good at building up the play when we play out from the back."

Alderweireld himself enthused: "I had a good talk with the coach. First of all, it was very important for me to play this season and the coach gave me a good solution for that.

"The trainer likes how I play and really wanted me to come here, which is what convinced me to come. I really wanted a trainer that believes in me because that's important.

"I think this is an upcoming club. Southampton put a lot of effort in to get me so now I want to give something back to the club by doing my best to help the team. I want to give everything for Southampton."

The Belgian joins Florin Gardos as an option at centre-back for the Saints, who sold Dejan Lovren to Liverpool for £20 million earlier this summer.

Hooiveld, meanwhile, has agreed a season-long stay at Norwich after Alderweireld's arrival pushed him further down the Saints' pecking order.

The Dutchman was entering the last year of his contract at St Mary's Stadium and is expected to move on once his spell with the Canaries in the Championship is over.

Official: Crystal Palace clinch Doyle loan

    210627_heroa.jpg

Crystal Palace have signed Kevin Doyle on loan from Wolves until January, the club have announced.

The Eagles beat the transfer deadline to sign the 30-year-old, who spent a significant portion of last season on loan at QPR.

Doyle becomes the club's third signing of transfer deadline day, following the arrivals of Zeki Fryers and James McArthur, while Glenn Murray has been allowed to join Reading on another short-term deal, which also runs until January.

Murray struggled to establish himself in the Palace starting XI after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in the club's promotion-winning season and will now continue his career in the Championship.

Enyeama misses Nigeria Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

    428918_heroa.jpg

Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama will miss Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with Congo and South Africa.

Enyeama has been granted leave for the two opening matches of the 2015 Afcon qualifiers on September 6 and 10 due to family reasons.

"It's better we excuse him, instead of bringing him down here without him concentrating for the game. I have asked him to sort himself out and he can join us in the future. For now there is no replacement for him because there is no time to do that," Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi explained.

As of the end of Monday, eight players had arrived the Metropolitan Hotel camp of the Super Eagles in Calabar.

Locally-based Kunle Odunlami, Gbolahan Salami, Christian Osaguona and Azubuike Egwuekwe were joined by Godfrey Oboabona, Nosa Igiebor, Ramon Azeez and Uche Nwofor.

The team is still battling with the release of Chinedu Obasi by his club Schalke, who said they have submitted his passport to embassies in Germany in order to procure visas to pursue their Champions League campaign.

Team administrator Dayo Enebi Achor is said to be working hard at ensuring that all players are available for the game.

The team will commence training on Tuesday at the Abraham Ordia Pitch of the University of Calabar.

Koeman told the club's official website: "Right from the first meeting I had with Les Reed, Sadio was on our list of potential players.

"I saw him playing last season and I was impressed with his qualities and with the physicality that he showed.

"It is incredible how many goals he has scored from his position and I hope that he will do the same for us."

Official: West Ham sign Amalfitano from Marseille

    443107_heroa.jpg

West Ham have signed midfielder Morgan Amalfitano from Marseille.

The 29-year-old joins on a permanent deal after spending the 2013-14 season on loan at West Brom.

A versatile attacking midfield player, Amalfitano becomes Sam Allardyce’s ninth and final signing of the summer transfer window.

"It's very good news and I'm very happy to come to this big club," the Frenchman told the Hammers’ official website.

"I've waited a long time but I am very happy to have signed here. The club wanted me a lot and for that I waited for West Ham and now I'm here.

"The manager explained to me how the team plays and how he needs me. I explained to him where I prefer as my position in his team.

“This is a new team with very good players with great experience of this league. I think everything can go well and I hope we have a good season.

"I prefer to play behind the striker but last year, with West Brom, I played on the right. I like to cross the ball, too, but I can also give through-passes from behind the striker. The coach will see what happens in every game and, if he finds another position for me in the team, there is no problem for me.

"I enjoyed my first year in English football and for that reason I have come back and hopefully I can improve again. The first year was good for my experience and I will try to help West Ham now by giving my best and continue to improve in this league. I like this country and this is the best league."

Official: Arsenal sign Welbeck from Manchester United

    451405_heroa.jpg

Arsenal have completed the €20 million signing of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.

Goal understands that a deal was struck late on Monday night to bring the England international to the Emirates Stadium on a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth.

Welbeck is set to earn around €120,000 per week at Arsenal, who have successfully secured a deal under the noses of north London rivals Tottenham.

Arsene Wenger moved for the 23-year-old after failing in efforts to sign Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao, the latter of whom is set to join United on a season-long loan deal.

    451468.jpg

The Gunners boss had previously denied that he would move for either Welbeck or Falcao but has since decided to snap up cover up front, with Olivier Giroud set to miss around four months due to a broken tibia.

Spurs had been in advanced talks to sign Welbeck on loan but Goal understands that Arsenal spent much of deadline day persuading United to sanction a permanent exit.

The forward had grown frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities and had requested showdown talks with new manager Louis van Gaal earlier this summer to resolve the issue.

Burnley announce Michael Keane loan from Manchester United

    340753_heroa.jpg

Burnley have announced the signing of Manchester United centre-back Michael Keane on loan.

The deal, subject to final Premier League approval, was completed late on deadline day and sees the England Under-21s international join until January.

Keane becomes the third player to move to Turf Moor in the final hours of the transfer window after George Boyd and Nathaniel Chalobah arrived from Hull City and Chelsea respectively earlier in the day.

Keane has enjoyed loan spells in the Championship with Leicester City and Derby County, as well as Burnley's local rivals Blackburn Rovers, but his upcoming spell with the Clarets is his first taste of Premier League football away from Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old made his league debut for the Red Devils during their 1-1 draw with Sunderland earlier in the season following an injury to Chris Smalling, but has been deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal as the Dutch coach looks for him to gain more experience away from Old Trafford.

    Official: Falcao joins Manchester United

    451574_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have completed the signing of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan deal.

The Red Devils will pay a €12 million-plus loan fee for the 28-year-old in addition to a significant portion of his €380,000-a-week Monaco wages and will have the option to buy at the end of the loan.

Falcao flew into Manchester by private jet on Monday afternoon to complete a medical at the club's Carrington training base and pen personal terms.

The Colombia international becomes United's sixth summer signing after Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria and Daley Blind.

    BwfN_krIMAAQd3v.jpg

"I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season," Falcao told the club's official website.

"Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top. I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the Club’s history."

The former Atletico Madrid forward's arrival allowed United to ship out both Javier Hernandez on loan to Real Madrid and Danny Welbeck to Arsenal during a busy deadline day.

Falcao only moved to Monaco from Atleti last summer, signing a five-year deal at the time, but becomes the latest player to join the principality club's exodus, with compatriot James Rodriguez also leaving the Stade Louis II.
