Ribery pips Ronaldo & Messi to Uefa award

    1987575_w21.jpg

The 30-year-old French international capped off a magnificent year by being presented with the prestigious award at a glitzy Champions league gala in Monte Carlo.

Ribery was instrumental in Bayern's Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League treble in 2012/13 and was voted the Best Player in Europe by journalists representing the 53 Uefa nations.

The individual accolade has been ran for the past three seasons, and was previously won by Messi in 2010/11 and club teammate Andres Iniesta the following year.

Upon acceptng the award from Uefa president Michel Platini, Ribery said, "It’s a very special moment to be standing here this evening. I want to thank all of my team-mates from FC Bayern München, my family and my kids.”

The winger becomes the fourth Bayern player to win the continent's highest individual prize, following in the footsteps of Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heniz Rummenigge.

Ribery will have little time to celebrate the accolade as he'll soon be en route to Prague, where his Bayern side are preparing to take on Chelsea for the Uefa Super Cup tomorrow night.

The former Marseille man has been at the Allianz Arena since 2007, over which time he's collected three league titles, three German cups and last seasons Champions league trophy.

For me Group B and F are tough...Galata is never easy. Tough as a hell. (Welcome to the hell they said) :P

Let kaka go. no need him to be a bench warmer. But who is gonna buy him... :D

Man u never underestimate your CSKA and Leverkusen. I'm a big fan of bundesliga and they beat teams like 5-3 4-3. Poor defense with Strong attack and a mid.

With Alonso's absence Madrid has a huge threat :( :( Tackling Pirlo, Vidal, Sneidger is never easy :( :(

    Milan seal Matri deal

    302681_heroa.jpg

AC Milan have signed Juventus striker Alessandro Matri, the Rossoneri's official website has confirmed.

Matri, 29, is believed to have signed on a four-year deal at San Siro, rejoining the side he played for as a youngster before having spells at Cagliari and Juventus, in a deal reportedly worth €11 million.

The striker has fell down the pecking order at the Bianconeri, with other attackers Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez joining Antonio Conte's ranks earlier this summer.

But, with Milan securing their place in the Champions League proper, having seen off the challenge of PSV, and Giampaolo Pazzini's return still to be confirmed, coach Massimiliano Allegri has bolstered his squad with the capture of the forward.

Matri made 83 appearances for Juventus, scoring 29 goals.

Meanwhile, Kevin-Prince Boateng has departed the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, completing a move to Bundesliga club Schalke on Friday.

:shocked:Schalke sign Kevin-Prince Boateng from AC Milan

    310663_heroa.jpg

Schalke have announced the signing of Kevin-Prince Boateng from AC Milan.

General manager Horst Heldt confirmed on Friday that the Ghana international has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga side.

Schalke have endured a rocky start to the 2013-14 season, and Heldt feels that the attacking midfielder can help get the Gelsenkirchen outfit back on the right path.

"He is a player with exceptional qualities and a great leader," Heldt told a press conference. "It was easy convincing the player to come – the challenge with the transfer came in convincing Milan to part with him.

"He will wear the No.9 jersey."

Meanwhile, coach Jens Keller, who has struggled to produce good results since pre-season, feels the addition of the 26-year-old will help propel his side in the right direction.

He continued: "He has a wealth of international experience which will greatly benefit our team."

Keller added that he is hopeful of using the former Borussia Dortmund attacker in his squad to face Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

:(Athletic Bilbao reject Manchester United's €30m bid for Ander Herrera

    286377_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have had a €30m bid for Ander Herrera rejected by Athletic Bilbao.

Athletic chiarman Josu Urrutia confirmed on Friday that he has rebuffed a bid from David Moyes' side, who have so far floundered in their attempts to attract midfield reinforcements to Old Trafford.

"There's an offer from Manchester [United] for Ander Herrera," Urrutia told reporters. "Our club is different, it bases itself on sentiment. Our goal is not to make money. We consider Athletic a unique club and the players have to think like that.

"We received the proposal last night and we said that we don't negotiate for our players. For a player to leave, he first has to show that he wants to leave the club then deposit the clause."

The move comes as Everton continue to play hardball over Marouane Fellaini - and Leighton Baines - following a summer in which United have missed out on primary targets Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara.

While the club's Fellaini hopes are not dead, they have started to broaden their search with Monday's transfer deadline looming.

Ander's release clause stands at €36m, and Athletic have told the Premier League champions that they must match that figure if they want to sign the 24-year-old.

The Basque club last summer insisted that Bayern Munich pay the full clause for Javi Martinez, who eventually moved to Bavaria for €40m.

It is unknown whether United will return with a larger offer for the midfielder, who joined Athletic from Zaragoza in 2011, though manager Moyes is a long-time admirer.

A club source told Goal: "David has always been a massive fan of Ander's, having monitored him since his time at Zaragoza."

Ander has represented Spain at Under-20 and U21 level, as well as at the 2012 Olympics, but is yet to receive a call-up to the senior squad.

Eto'o delighted with 'dream' Premier League move

    311203_heroa.jpg

Samuel Eto'o has dubbed his move to the Premier League as one of his "last dreams as a professional" after joining Chelsea.

The 32-year-old has won La Liga, Serie A and the Champions League on three occasions as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and two African Cup of Nations titles with Cameroon over an illustrious career.

But the four-time African Player of the Year is now relishing the chance of playing in England under Jose Mourinho, his former manager at Inter.

"I've had a couple of opportunities to come to England before, including the first time Jose was here - but it didn't work out for one reason or another," Eto'o told Chelsea's official website.

"Since that time, I have had a career where I have been lucky enough to win a lot of trophies in different countries. But one of my last dreams as a professional is to come and play in England and see if I can have the same success as in my previous clubs.

"I don't see it as a final challenge but to have a good time, enjoy my football, and have success with this team."

Eto'o has penned a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala.

When asked whether he is eyeing a longer stay at Chelsea, he added: "This is the thing that least pre-occupies me.

"It's something to talk about later, both sides need to be happy but importantly the club needs to be happy with me before they even ask my opinion on that."

Tottenham sign Chiriches from Steaua Bucharest

    300345_heroa.jpg

Tottenham have completed the signing of Vlad Chiriches from Steaua Bucharest.

The 23-year-old scored four goals in 62 appearances during his stay with Steaua, as well as earning 19 caps for the Romania national team.

The highly-rated defender will now ply his trade at White Hart Lane after Spurs agreed a fee reported to be around the £8.5 million mark with the Bucharest outfit.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with FC Steaua Bucharest for the transfer of Vlad Chiriches," a statement read on the club's official website.

Chiriches made his international debut in August 2011 and helped Steaua end their seven-year wait for the Romanian league championship last term, and also played part in their succesful Champions League qualifying campaign.

He becomes Spurs' fifth signing of the summer, joining Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli at White Hart Lane, while Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen are set to join from Roma and Ajax.

Real Madrid: Spurs 'stalling' Bale deal

    311056_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid vice-president Fernando Fernandez-Tapias has accused Tottenham of "stalling" the club's bid to sign Gareth Bale.

Los Blancos had been expected to complete the deal earlier this week, and had even constructed a stage on which to unveil the 24-year-old attacker at the Santiago Bernabeu, only to be forced to dismantle it as the transfer was held up by Spurs' desire to sign a replacement before selling the Wales international.

While Fernandez-Tapias is still confident that Madrid will belatedly get their man, he admits that the Liga giants have been frustrated by Tottenham's behaviour.

"There are problems, but I think it will all be straightened out," he is quoted as saying by AS. "We thought he'd be here, but he hasn't even flown to Madrid yet, although it could still happen"I think it will happen, but I couldn't swear to it completely. We have to wait, because Spurs are stalling."

Fernandez-Tapias argued, though, that Madrid are more than capable of challenging for titles even if the deal does not go through before the close of the transfer window on September 2.

"I have no doubt of Bale's ability, but without Bale, Real are still a force to be reckoned with - we have an amazing team," he declared.

Bale, who scored 26 goals in 44 appearances for Tottenham last term, is reportedly set to join Madrid for a world-record fee.

Gareth Bale: Real Madrid agree personal terms with Spurs forward
    _69564422_169060524.jpg

Gareth Bale has agreed personal terms at Real Madrid ahead of his world record move from Tottenham.

However, the Spanish giants are still in discussions over the fee with a bid of £86m already submitted to Spurs.

"While discussions in Madrid have taken some days, it's important to stress this was always a formality," says BBC chief sports correspondent Dan Roan.

"The agreement over personal terms has no bearing on the timing of the actual transfer being announced."

In addition to the world record offer, Real have also submitted an alternative bid of close to £70m, which would be a one-off payment for the 24-year-old Wales forward.

"The conclusion of the talks over personal terms separate from negotiations between Real Madrid and Spurs regarding the amount and structuring of a transfer fee," Roan added.

"All that remains now is for Spurs to formally accept Real Madrid's offer and to agree on simultaneous announcements."
