Hulk: Time to show Dunga what I can do

    hulk-brazil-chile-intl-friendly-11192013_zspmi5ld8srm15hhgxzbw7gfh.jpg

Hulk says he is ready to show Brazil coach Dunga what he can do.

The Zenit forward was recalled to the squad for this month’s Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour double-header with Costa Rica and USA, and now looks set to make his first appearance for his country since last year’s World Cup.

Former Porto man Hulk was called up for Dunga’s first post-World Cup squad last year but was forced to withdraw through injury, the fallout from which caused some confusion.

“I want to take this opportunity to make sure I always return to the national team. It is time to show that I can do just that,” Hulk told reporters upon arriving in New Jersey.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista, meanwhile, is hoping to make his Brazil debut. And he some big shoes to fill after being drafted in to replace Thiago Silva, who was left out of the squad completely.“I was always waiting for my opportunity, respecting everyone who was here,” he said.

“This is not me exceeding anyone. Thiago Silva is a great player. As I have always said, I think he is one of the best defenders in the world and he will always help inspire me to become one of the best.”

Brazil face Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, September 5.

I want to feel important at Bayer Leverkusen - Hernandez

    javierhernandez-cropped_yjr75kkdo7sn1btm5cj4njtx0.jpg

Javier Hernandez says a desire to feel "important" was a primary factor in his move to Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United.

The Mexico international's five-year spell at Old Trafford came to an end on Monday, as he joined the Bundesliga side on a three-year deal, having spent last season on loan at Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old made three appearances for United prior to his move to Germany but did not appear to be an integral part of Louis van Gaal's plans, and he has now expressed his excitement at starting afresh with Leverkusen.

"I want to feel important again as they have made me feel like that with their interest in me," he told a press conference.

"I want to find again the happiness that I have been looking for all this time. I know it is not going to be easy, but what I have in mind is to play and help to achieve important things."

Monaco striker Anthony Martial is poised to join United in a deal that could reportedly reach €80 million, with Van Gaal having also sold Robin van Persie this summer.

Hernandez, though, insists that he has no hard feelings towards the Dutchman, adding: "He is a great coach and each coach has his methods, his ideas and his liking to follow different styles, so he works in his own way.

"I have no problem with him. The relation between us was completely professional, like the one he has with all the players.

"But he believed that other team-mates could do more than me in certain positions on the pitch.

"As I said earlier, here I feel important and I will learn a lot. I will be surrounded by many people who can help me, so I will do everything for them also."

    Hernanes overjoyed by Juventus move

    hernanes-inter_pw7fhgvr1o111q6zolqb1nbz5.jpg

Hernanes has expressed his joy at joining Juventus from Inter, while at the same time thanking his former club's fans for their support during his time at San Siro.

The Brazil international only joined the Nerazzurri from Lazio in January 2014 but sealed an €11 million move to Turin on Monday after Massimiliano Allegri's men had missed out on the signing of Julian Draxler.

Hernanes promptly took to Instagram to bid a fond farewell to the Inter faithful, writing: "First of all, I wanted to say goodbye to the Interista family.

"And to say thank you to this great club, which gave me the opportunity to live a rich and fascinating experience in the Inter jersey for a year and a half.

"And to [say thank you to] the Nerazzurri fans for all of the affection received.

"Thanks a million from the bottom of my heart to all of you."

However, at the same time, Hernanes could barely contain his delight after sealing his sudden switch to Juve and described the Italian champions as one of the world's most important clubs.

"It's with pride and honour that I present to you my new jersey," he added. "I am motivated to the maximum to enjoy this new experience as best I can.

"And happy to know another great, beautiful and important Italian city like Torino, living with other great people and professionals, and representing one of the most important clubs in Italy and the world!

"And tomorrow I will show you what's behind the jersey," he added, alluding to his new number.

Southampton reject £20m-plus-Lamela bid for Wanyama from Tottenham

    1851042_heroa.jpg

Southampton have rejected a staggering late bid from Tottenham for Victor Wanyama worth more than £20 million plus Erik Lamela on loan, Goal understands.

The 24-year-old was absent from Sunday's 3-0 win over Norwich, with Ronald Koeman confirming the midfielder was not "mentally and physically good enough to play" after handing in a transfer request.

Southampton held a private meeting with Wanyama and his agent on Monday in an attempt to convince the player to remain at St Mary's, offering him a new deal with improved terms worth double the Kenyan's current salary.

It is understood that Morgan Schneiderlin's move to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window saw Southampton dig their heels in over further big-name exits despite Wanyama's unhappiness.

"Southampton are not interested in discussing Wanyama," a source told Goal. "They don't want to release the player and, despite Tottenham coming back with a second bid, they have refused to budge.

"As we speak, Wanyama is on his way to Kenya for Sunday's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia. He is disappointed since the move to Spurs stalled but he will now remain a Southampton player."

Wanyama has just two years left to run on his contract at Southampton and has previously praised the impact that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has had on his career, with the Argentine having brought the Kenyan to the Premier League.

"I learnt a lot from him, he taught me more and that's why I have grown as a player and there is a big difference compared to when I was at Celtic," Wanyama told Capital FM Kenya in 2014.

"He played a big role in my career development.

"I wanted him to remain because he had the passion for the club and I think the owners should not have let him go because the team can do better next season. It's a big blow because he had good connection with the players."

Berahino slams West Brom over failed Tottenham move: I'll never play for them again

    1830422_heroa.jpg

Saido Berahino says he will never play for West Brom again following their refusal to accept a bid from Tottenham.

The 22-year-old has seen a transfer requested turned down by the Baggies as the striker looked to force through a move to White Hart Lane after two bids, understood to be worth £18 million and £22m were rejected.

Tottenham reportedly bid a further two times for Berhaino on deadline day, both of which were also rejected and now the England Under-21 international has vented his frustration at chairman Jeremy Pearce on Twitter.

Berahino has not featured for West Brom since the 0-0 draw with newly promoted Watford on the opening day of the season.

Official: Man Utd sign Martial from Monaco

    1496692_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have announced the signing of Anthony Martial from Monaco.

The 19-year-old was linked with Tottenham earlier this summer before penning a new contract at Stade Louis II but now becomes Louis van Gaal's sixth summer signing for a reported fee of £36 million (€50m).

Martial, who was handed his first senior call-up to the France squad this week, was given permission to leave the international camp and complete a move Monaco claim could eventually be worth £58.7m (€80m).

"I'm so excited to join United," said Martial upon signing a four-year contract with the option for a further year. "I've always wanted to play in the Premier League and I look forward to meeting my team-mates."

Manager Van Gaal added: "Anthony is a talented young forward with great potential. I believe this is the club for him to continue his development."

With Robin van Persie joining Fenerbahce in July and Javier Hernandez expected to leave for Bayer Leverkusen, signing a new striker has been United's top priority before the close of the transfer window.

Wayne Rooney is currently enduring his worst run of form in the Premier League since moving to Old Trafford in 2004, having not scored 10 games as he adapts back from last season's deeper role.

Martial has been identified as one of the hottest properties in French football and it has been reported in France that Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim threatened to quit were he sold to United.

The youngster arrives at Old Trafford with only 52 senior appearances to his name, but his eventual transfer fee could come in just shy of Angel Di Maria's British record £59.7m move to United in August 2014.

Henry on Martial to Man Utd: It's a massive gamble

    1857582_heroa.jpg

Thierry Henry admits Manchester United have taken a “massive gamble” by signing Anthony Martial.

The 19-year-old has completed his move Old Trafford from Monaco in a deal worth up to €80 million (£59m).

Martial has been labelled as the next Henry but the former Arsenal striker insists United's latest recruit will need time to adapt.

“He has pace, can he score a a lot of goals? I actually don’t know because he’s only played 52 games. It’s a weird one for me to say. It’s a massive gamble that you need to take nowadays because of the situation Man United have,” Henry told Sky Sports.

“We saw him at the Emirates last season playing with Monaco and causing trouble to the Arsenal defence, he has a bright future. But there’s always a question mark, whether he can perform.

“We saw it last season with [Angel] Di Maria, an established, experienced player who couldn’t make it through the ranks at United.

“He played at the weekend against PSG and he can play in the middle. Is it going to take him a bit of time to adjust and understand what the job requires? Yes, because he only played 52 professional games. It [the fee] is mind-blowing.

“You have a lot of boxes that you can’t tick with him because I repeat he has only played 52 games. You are not the same player you are after 100 or 150 games from the 50 that you start with – especially as a centre-forward, you need games, experience and time out there to perform.

“I wish him all the best and think he can do well.”

    Official: Hector completes Chelsea switch

    1861582_heroa.jpg

Chelsea have made their second signing of deadline day, snapping up Michael Hector from Reading.

The 23-year-old signs a five-year contract with Jose Mourinho's side but will spend the remainder of this season on loan at the Royals.

He becomes Chelsea's 10th signing of the summer though he is not set to feature for them in 2015-16.

Hector developed into a pivotal part of the Reading side last term, making 49 appearances across all competitions, including playing 120 minutes in their FA Cup semi-final defeat by Arsenal. He also captained the Championship club for the first time earlier this season.

His capture follows the unexpected signing of fellow defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes earlier on deadline day, with the Blues' pursuit of Everton star John Stones appearing to have fatally stalled.

Martial: I won't feel pressure at Man Utd

    1862832_heroa.jpg

Anthony Martial insists he will not feel the pressure at Manchester United after becoming the world’s most-expensive teenager.

The 19-year-old has joined from Monaco in a deal that could eventually be worth £58.7 million (€80m).

Martial has made only 52 appearances in Ligue 1 following his first-team debut for Lyon in the Europa League in December 2012, but the France Under-21 international believes he is prepared for the challenge at Old Trafford.

"I don't feel the pressure. I know there is pressure but I'm ready for it,” Martial told MUTV.

"I'm very happy because it's a big club in England. I'm very proud. I'm very happy because I worked hard for this and my family is very happy about it.

"I spoke with the coach, Louis van Gaal, and I know that I need to work very hard. It's not easy to speak about myself but I am a very fast player. I hope that everything will go well for me at this club."

Martial to wear No.9 at Manchester United

    1862832_heroa.jpg

Manchester United have announced that Anthony Martial will wear the number nine shirt after completing his deadline day move to the club from Monaco.

Reports have suggested that United could pay as much as €80 million (£58.8m) for the 19-year-old, and he has now selected his squad number after the deal was officially announced.

The No.9 shirt has a storied history at United, with Brian McClair and Andy Cole the first two custodians in the Premier League era before Louis Saha took it in the 2003-04 season following his move from Fulham.

Dimitar Berbatov was the next incumbent after his £30m move from Tottenham before Radamel Falcao adorned the number for his solitary season at the club.

Official: Napoli sign Chelsea's Chalobah on loan

    1862972_heroa.jpg

Napoli have signed Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Chelsea and has spent time on loan at Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley and Reading in the past three years.

Chalobah becomes Napoli’s eighth signing of the summer window but the Serie A club’s coach, Maurizio Sarri, admits he is in the dark over the player’s ability.

“I couldn't tell you, as I don't know anything about the player,” the 56-year-old said after Napoli’s 2-2 draw with Sampdoria on Sunday.

“If the club picked him then he must have some quality. I train whoever the club puts at my disposal.”
