Napoli rejected €98 million worth of offers - De Laurentiis

    napoli-celebrating-vs-sampdoria_wau115zalq7i1cf92nwfhf0xb.jpg

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed he turned down €98 million worth of transfer bids from rival clubs over the course of the summer transfer window.

A fifth-placed finish last season means the Partenopei missed out on Champions League football this term, prompting speculation a host of their best players could leave. However, Napoli held firm to keep hold of star man Gonzalo Higuain, as well as Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon, Faouzi Ghoulam and Manolo Gabbiadini.

"Higuain aside, if I had sold the players that were the subject of bids, I would have received €98 million," De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport.Napoli have been prudent in their acquisitions, with Vlad Chiriches arriving from Tottenham in a €6.1m deal and Udinese's Allan joining for an undisclosed fee.

De Laurentiis also added that he attempted to buy two other high-profile names: "We made substantial offers for [Daniele] Rugani and [Alessio] Romagnoli."
Rugani eventually signed for Juventus from Empoli, while Romagnoli left Roma for AC Milan.

Official: Moses loaned to West Ham

    1687612_heroa.jpg

Chelsea winger Victor Moses has joined West Ham on a season-long loan, after signing a new four-year deal with the Blues.

The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Liverpool and Stoke City and has now made the move to Slaven Bilic's side for the rest of the campaign.

Moses joined Chelsea from Wigan Athletic in 2012 and has gone on to make 44 appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 times.

He becomes the Hammers' second deadline day signing, joining Alex Song at Upton Park after the midfielder agreed to return to the club for a second loan spell from Barcelona.

Wenger's hopes of making an 'exceptional' Arsenal signing fading fast

    1854342_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger's hopes of making a dramatic late signing are fading fast with Arsenal anticipating a quiet final day of the transfer window, Goal understands.

Wenger has insisted over the summer that he will only sign an "exceptional" player to further improve his squad and has been in the market for a central midfielder and a striker.

Speculation linking the Gunners with moves for Paris Saint-Germain duo Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot intensified when Wenger was pictured in the French capital on Monday.

But Arsenal sources have told Goal that the club are not expecting to sign any new players before the 6pm deadline on Tuesday.

PSG have insisted that neither Cavani nor Rabiot will be sold, especially with the Ligue 1 champions unable to sign a replacement as the transfer window has already closed in France for incoming signings.

Links to Rabiot and Cavani emerged after the Gunners conceded defeat in their attempts to sign top summer target Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.

Arsenal have only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea in a £10 million deal to improve their squad as they target a title challenge this season.

The north London club have more than £70m available to spend on new signings but are unlikely to add any players on deadline day.

Bayern buy smart in face of Premier League riches

    1784282_heroa.jpg

As the Premier League has spent and spent, Bayern have kept a cool head and made subtle tweaks to address weaknesses within their squad this summer, rather than make extravagant, big money signings.

In Matthias Sammer, they have a transfer chief who is determined in his current role as he was as a player. He has been typically forthright in his attitude in the market this summer and recently pointed to the gulf in riches between English and German clubs.

Nevertheless, they remain the market leader in Germany and have addressed their need for competition in wide areas that became glaringly apparent towards the end of 2014/15.

Last season was a particularly frustrating one for Bayern. Despite winning the Bundesliga, the Champions League eluded them after a disappointing performance against Barcelona and they lost their stranglehold on the DFB Pokal, as they were beaten by Dortmund in the semi-finals.

On either flank, they were left exposed. Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are creaking with age, with their already-fragile bodies unable to support the rigours of the club’s designs on dominance on all three fronts.

Douglas Costa, whose skills have dazzled in his early appearances for the club, has been brought in from Shakhtar Donetsk and has all the potential to develop into a superstar.

A more curious move is the two-year loan for Juventus starlet Kingsley Coman, with an option to make the transfer permanent, should he impress.

The French youngster was not the only man to arrive from the Italian champions. Arturo Vidal, who came so close to moving to the Allianz Arena four years ago, was signed after his victorious Copa America campaign with Chile.

The 28-year-old, along with youngster Joshua Kimmich, will add some steel to midfield. Signed from Stuttgart after two impressive years on loan at RB Leipzig, Pep Guardiola has gushed over the Germany youth international’s talent. While Vidal will look to dominate the centre of the park now, Kimmich is one for the future.

The least eye catching signing was a necessary one: Sven Ulreich arrived from Stuttgart to provide experienced back-up to Manuel Neuer.

It was also the end of an era at the Allianz Arena as Bastian Schweinsteiger was sold to Manchester United. His contribution over the last couple of years was limited by injury, but the Bavarians were perhaps guilty of selling him on the cheap as he moved to Old Trafford for €20 million.

Another hero from the treble winning team of 2012-13 to depart was Dante, who made his way to Wolfsburg for €5m. Again, Bayern arguably let him go cheaply, but as Sammer explained: “He wanted to have the chance to play regularly and we didn’t want to deny him that.” He had slipped to fifth choice in the pecking order.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will pick up more first-team experience during his loan spell at Schalke, which will do the young Dane the world of good, while Xherdan Shaqiri’s move to Inter in January swelled the club’s coffers by €17m.

All in all, Bayern have been typically efficient in the window. They have shelled out €86m and brought back in €33.5m. Two bona fide stars have moved to the Allianz Arena in Vidal and Douglas Costa and will improve the team’s quality in the short term.

But this summer will always be remembered as the one which saw Schweinsteiger leave Bayern.

    Official: West Ham sign Jelavic

    1085342_heroa.jpg

West Ham have signed Nikica Jelavic from Hull City on a two-year deal, with the option of a further two, for an undisclosed fee.

The striker, who Hammers manager Slaven Bilic gave a senior international debut to for Croatia in 2009, becomes the club's 10th summer signing and third on deadline day after loanees Alex Song and Victor Moses.

"I am very excited to be signing for West Ham United, especially as it is a big Club and I didn't know until a couple of days ago that I would have the opportunity to come here," he told the club's official website.

"Of course it is always a target to play in the Premier League, so when I found out that West Ham wanted me there was no doubt that I wanted to come here.

"I've played for Slaven before for the Croatia national team and he is a great manager and a great man. I am really happy and delighted to be working with him and all his staff again.

"I'll be joining a team that's on a high after the result on Saturday."

    Official: Chelsea snap up Djilobodji

    1787872_heroa.jpg

Chelsea have signed Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji for a reported £4 million.

The Blues have conceded nine goals in their opening four Premier League games and have responded by signing the centre-back on a four-year deal.

A statement on Nantes website said: "As with Jordan Veretout, Djilobodji joins the Premier League and the ranks of the champions. Nantes extend their congratulations and wish him well for the rest of his career."

Djilobodji, 26, joined Nantes from Moissy-Cramayel in 2009 before going on to make 171 league appearances for the club in Ligue 1 and 2 and scoring nine goals.

The Senegal international could make his Chelsea debut against Everton at Goodison Park on September 12 after the international break.

Chelsea agree £4m deal for Hector

    1861582_heroa.jpg

Chelsea have agreed a £4m deal for Reading defender Michael Hector, Goal understands.

Hector’s representatives are currently discussing personal terms in west London ahead of a shock deadline day move to the Premier League champions.

The centre-back, 23, is set to join on the same day that the Blues completed a £2.7m deal for Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji.

It brings in to question Chelsea’s transfer strategy this summer after their failed attempts to sign top target John Stones from Everton despite being prepared to bid £40m for the England international.

Hector, 23, had previously been attracting interest from Crystal Palace after signing a new three-year contract with Reading in June.

The Jamaica international, who is represented by his father and uncle, has had 11 loan spells already during his career.

Real Madrid: We did everything necessary in De Gea transfer from Man Utd

    1860492_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid have claimed they did everything possible to sign goalkeeper David de Gea from Manchester United.

The £29 million deal to sign the Spain international would have seen Keylor Navas go in the opposite direction for around £10m, but the necessary paperwork was not completed before Monday's midnight CET deadline.

In a written statement on the club's official website, Madrid have revealed a timeline of events to support their assertion that they could have done nothing more to secure De Gea's services.

After explaining that United had not agreed to talks relating to a transfer until Monday morning, Madrid say they responded as quickly as possible at every stage of the process.

"Manchester United entered the TMS data from the operation of David de Gea, but not those of Keylor Navas, at 00:00 Spanish time, simultaneously referring to Real Madrid signed transfer contracts," said the club statement.

"Real Madrid received the full documentation at 00:02 and tried to access the TMS but it was already closed.

"At 00:26 Spanish time the computer system of Fifa TMS made an invitation to Real Madrid to fill in data for the player David de Gea, given that the deadline for registration in England remains open to this day.

"Real Madrid, in the eventuality of a possible contest regarding the transfer of the player, decided to refer the contract to the Professional Football League (LFP), despite knowing that the deadlines had expired.

"In short, the Real Madrid has done everything necessary, and at all times, to implement these two transfers."

The Madrid statement makes no mention of a potential appeal to the LFP, with the club now believed to have accepted that their quest for De Gea's signature has come to an end.

:shocked:Real Madrid's full statement on collapse of De Gea deal

    1860492_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid have blamed Manchester United for the collapse of their deal to sign David de Gea before the close of the summer transfer window in Spain on Monday.

Los Blancos reached a player-plus-cash agreement with the Premier League side that would have seen the Spain international join for £29 million (€39.5m) and Keylor Navas move in the opposite direction.
However, the transfers never went through and Madrid have now issued a detailed statement in which they claim that the fault lies with United for failing to send relevant documentation on time."After the events of yesterday [Monday] in relation to the alleged hiring of the player David de Gea, Real Madrid wishes to state:

"1. Manchester United didn’t open any path of negotiation for the registration rights to David de Gea until yesterday morning.

"2. Real Madrid, despite the difficulties associated with completing a deal of this type on the final day of registration, accepted the initiation of these conversations.

"3. When Manchester United entered into these negotiations yesterday morning they did so subject to being able to reach an agreement with the Real Madrid player Keylor Navas, so that he would join the British club from this season, and were informed that they were in contact with the representatives of said player.

"4. Real Madrid and Manchester United reach a rapid agreement on the transfer of both players. After the drafting of the relevant contractual documents required and in order to proceed with sufficient time to process both the Fifa Transfer Matching System (TMS) entry time and LFP reristration, Real Madrid forwarded the contracts to Manchester United at 13:39 Spanish time.

"5. Manchester United sent its comments on the contracts eight hours later, at 21:43 Spanish time, including minor modifications. Not being relevant, all changes were accepted immediately by Real Madrid, with the intention to register the players with both TMS and the LFP.

"6. After the signatures of the players De Gea and Navas, Real Madrid sent the English club the signed contracts at 23:32 Spanish time. We then awaited the receipt of the final documents signed by Manchester United

"7. Manchester United reached a final agreement with the representatives of Keylor Navas at 23:53 Spanish time and it was at that time the contracts were sent to the player to be signed.

"8. Manchester United entered the TMS data from the David de Gea deal, and not those of Keylor Navas, at 00:00 Spanish time, simultaneously referring to the signed Real Madrid contracts. Real Madrid received the full documentation at 00:02 and tried to access the TMS but found that it was already closed.

"9. At 00:26 Spanish time, the computer system of Fifa TMS made an invitation to Real Madrid to fill out the data for the player David de Gea, given that the deadline for registration in England remains open to this day [Tuesday]. Real Madrid decided to refer the contract to the LFP, knowing that the deadlines had expired.

"10. In short, Real Madrid has done everything necessary, and at all times, to implement these two transfers."
