Brother don't think you got a useless phone. 3GS is thousand times better than Nokia. Ok here we go I think you have Sync your iPhone with your new iTunes. Anyways first of all you have to make a apple ID!

Then you can find loads of applications for free. You will easily understand what is app store. As a example let's say you just want to install Skype search for the Skype and tap on free button. Then it will appear as Install. Tap on that as well. Then it will start to download Skype to the iPhone.

Now you can install thousands of free apps legally from app store. For the moment this is enough I guess.
