You dont have to stick to academics after your PhD.

But doing a PhD is a wrecking experience and you will have to sacrifice those 5 years. If you can, then I would say go for it.

I heard some people start their own business/startup using the knowledge gain from the PHD. You can try something like that.

I have some thoughts to do a PHD. But the thing is I am easily get off track and bored with things. So I am afraid that after starting a PHD sooner It will be a headache for me. In my whole life I am battling with procrastination. I'm trying hard to stop that.

I have seen in my field (physics/chemistry) a PhD opens up more opportunities.

    1. Some positions require a PhD
    2. Salary restrictions not having a PhD
    3. Less experience with PhD required vs more experience with a MSc.
Thank you! Same scenario with most R&D positions in engineering
man nan job eka denne PhD tiyena experience nathi ekekwa nan man ganne na. BSc ekak witarak tibbath kalin wada karapu than wala supiriyata perform karapu loku experience ekak tiyena innovative ekak wa wadata ganna mama kamathi
    Oya inne mona field ekeda?

Yes. Many of consultancy opportunities will be opened after doing PhD. Avoid social media, this will help you to beat your procrastination.

not suitable for worker environment please proceed with PHD and future lecturing . Industry needs hands on practical engineers
Then why do some positions require a PhD?

If you like to stay in academic field, do it. For an example, to work in a university, or to work in research projects. But you have to choose the field carefully. AI, Robotics will be the most demanding fields for the next upcoming years.

If you want to earn money in upcoming years and get settled, don't do it. I am not saying that you can't earn money with a PhD. But it will be a long journey.

I personally decided to not to do PhD because I wanted to build a career and earn money for the future. Now I don't regret about my decision.

Finally, if it's a ultimate goal, dream in your life, you can sacrifice other things and go for it.

I have foreign friends who finished their PhD when they are 25yrs old. Afterwards, they have enough time to build a career. But, due to our Sri Lankan education system, we are little bit late to the party. You can't change the past. It is what it is. Choose wisely depending on your life goals.

    Thank you bro!

Thanks for the advice bro. I asked this in EK, because I have no one else to ask. I've heard that in academia abroad, it's impossible to make $100,000. Is that true?
A lecturer will get a salary of around 120k AUD in aussie after doing a PhD

most of them had practical experience while they doing phd so after that value is upgraded so they should work on top positions . Phd means master in subject .

All the phd holders wont get this chance in life
