Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has urged the government to appoint a foreign police team to investigate the suicide bomb attack that killed retired Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera and 27 others.
He was making a special speech in Parliament today (Oct. 07th).
Mr. Wickremesinghe said they could not trust the probe by Sri Lanka Police.
The government had not given the ex-military commander with adequate protection and jeopardized his personal safety, he alleged.
Mr. Wickremesinghe accused the government of being responsible for the incident, and said it had treated the late ex-army commander with contempt, and not as a heroic soldier.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake said the government strongly condemned the killing of Maj. Gen. Perera and the others.
He praised the late soldier-turned politician for having rendered an excellent service to the nation, and said no one could be totally protected against the LTTE.

When the Terrists blasted WTC did the American ppl say that it's the fault of the government? No, they all stood as a nation and helped the president to wipe off the terrorists in their country. This is just an example. (The same for the UK attack). That's how the ppl in the developed countries think.
But what we do? When something happens, always the government was blamed but we do nothing to stop it happening again. This is the reason we can't develop this country. All (most of the ppl) are selfish.
Now for this Janaka Perera's incident, why only the government is responsible? It's 99% clear that this was done by LTTE. Why not blame the LTTE? Why not blame the ppl who organised it without proper security? We should help the government and forces to wipe out LTTE from our motherland. For this we should forget our race, religion, politics, etc, etc.....
