You should have a decent set of speakers.......IM NOT TELLING ONBOARD IS CRAP....Im tellin ONBOARD IS CRAP COMPARED TO DEDICATED SOUND CARDS

Once I had Creative Sound Blaster live 5.1 card, that hit by lightning..
quality.. i don't know man, sound is lower than my onboard, have to use maximum volume to hear decent sound, good for audio.. bad for mp3s ..

why stick with that pc speaker systems..
there is a whole set of equipments beyond that..
think about a THX certified receiver and a speakers system..
you cant compare the sound with a small pc speaker system..
even if you use the best sound card in the world....
and BTW most of the sound enthusiasts use optical outs..
    not that crappy analogue outs....
you can see the difference if you can connect your z5500 via a optical cable..
    :P

Audigy and a Creative SBS you cant find much difference in audio quality than a onboard. If you invest in a audio card then go for a good one and at the same time go for good speakers. Don't spend money on a audigy when you have SBS speakers and you can hear the same quality with your onboard connected to the SBS.

If you're really into music, recording stuff, go for a seperate one.

even if ur a game freak I dont think its the sound card which matters the most,

I spent alot of money on my graphics & other parts & I dont even think about switching from my on board audio to a dedicated coz with a good speaker system like altect lansing 2.1 or 5.1.... etc U get the best stuff...

    & plz no offence machan,

Your post is not very convincing on what you're really trying to say. I dont think the cpu utilization is best way to show what ur really trying to point out.

I did my own testing...with Unreal 3 game. Audio vs. no audio performance difference. (I used integrated audio and can't really compare dedicated vs. integrated)

But I can assure you it is not as bas as you say! (Dedicated audio would still eat up "some" CPU resources...only thing is it won't eat as much as an integrated chip would)

    By anusha
First result is without audio. 2nd is with audio.

    That's a whopping 5.68% slow down...I'm gonna die

    P.S.
This is at 1024x768 max details, max texture quality, with Core 2 Duo @ 2.73GHz, 4GB RAM and an unlocked X800GTO.
    Tested using UT3 Benchmark tool

    P.P.S.
A dedicated audio chip would have made a 2% performance drop...so in the end, it is just ~3.5% performance difference with a dedicated card...that's lots of $$$ too :P
    I'd rather get a faster VGA :P
