I just returned from a three and a half week tour in Egypt & Greece. Also I have visited the Peruvian (Machu Picchu, Puma Punku) sites too.
You can see quite clearly the stone cutting methods used in Egypt and Peru are quite similar. A visit to their stone quarries where you can still find unfinished slabs & cracked obelisks shows this.
You cannot compare the Egyptian pyramids or the tombs in the Valley of the Kings to anything in SriLanka. It is simply AWESOME. You got to see it to realise that. Not from a photograph. Even the hieroglyphs inscribed in stone, these are staggeringly neatly done. The craftsmanship is beyond belief.
There's stonecraft in Greece too. They also used large Granite around 160 tons per block. But these were built more than a 1000 years later than Egypt and the Egyptian work is far superior.
Drawings in the Egyptian temples show how blocks being pulled and also transported using boats and slaves in chains tied from necks & feet. You can easily see the features of the slaves (the hair & faces) to be African. Apparently all labour, whether slave or hired has been paid by the kings.
Also in the stone quarries you still can find the creatures like the Emus, Impalas drawn on rock. These African animals never were in Egypt. The slaves etched them in their leisure time, their memories of Africa.
I will upload some photos later. Now back to work. Visit Egypt if you can. It's truly worthwhile.

Both in Egypt and Peru, when you visit the quarries you can see that they have made a series of holes in the granite. Then they insert wooden pegs into these. The guide told us what the wood type was but forget now. When soaked with water, these wooden pegs expand and the rock gets split. The stone workers then chisel it to break the granite apart and polish it. Also trenches are cut into the granite, layer by layer till they can take it off.
They transported these when the annual floods occurred. That was a regular event. It's severe flooding. The biggest problem is not the transport - how they constructed the pyramid itself. But there's a new theory which says that they had a ramp alongside as the construction progressed. They used the ramp to raise the stones as it grows in height. There's significant evidence (markings on the stone where ropes were being pulled) to support this theory.
Also note that the pyramid is near perfectly along the cardinal points, north-south-east-west — true Geographic - NOT the magnetic North/South which is easily found. The placement accuracy is better than four minutes of arc, or one-fifteenth of one degree!!!!
So they were aware of some science.

I have read the books by Robert Bauval who I believe put forward this Orion theory. But there are counter arguments against as well. It's only conjecture.
There are unexplained knowledge in many civilizations. One such example is the Dogon tribe, who live in Africa - somewhere southern Mali. The Dogons worship the "Dog Star" - Sirius. Their Gods came from there.
They knew that Sirius has a heavy, small, invisible companion. They also knew it's rotational period. They believe ugly amphibian like creatures visited them thousands of years ago, and imparted knowledge, even about our own solar system. In their folklore, they knew the earth orbits around the sun, Jupiter's moons and Saturn's rings. - Long before Galileo.
Of course now we know the that the Sirius is a Binary Star - The existence of Sirius -B, a white dwarf, not normally visible to the naked eye and with the rotational period what the Dogons believed.
The first photos of Sirius B was in 1970!!!
Again proves nothing, but at the same time, it cannot be explained how their ancestors knew these facts.
