A video back from 2014 which explains why traffic categorization by ISPs is not such a good idea
sadly it seems like TRC got it thumbs up its ass and let ISPs carry out their greedy fucking agendas and not protect the consumers

Vanilla base packages and Value added premiums is the trend all over the world mate. Google, Netflix, apple etc share their revenues with Operators to give better QoE in developed countries and others ISP charge additional fee to provide premium quality. Its an economic game and nothing to fuzz.

when ISPs can categorize and promote traffic (Google, Netflix, apple etc) the next possibel step they can take is traffic priority, even artificially.
what's to say they wouldn't promote their own service or highest paying business over the others? suddenly one service seems faster than the other
they can slow down certain sites or protocols (bittorrent is a good example) while allowing others to operate normally.
besides think about it like this: if the data caps here were more reasonable they wouldn't be able to sell all these entertainment "packages" like this and rake in more money. right?
they're using the same bandwidth, but by differentiating it they get to charge more
lapping it up to a simple economic gain is a slippery slope to more restrictive BS :):)
consumers should be more aware of what's happening

Why Sri Lankan Operators look for additional revenue through value added service is they are not making money with Data. Their investments are very high and making losses from Data which are subsidised by Voice. But now Voice is moving to OTT.
If they are to sustain and upgrade their networks they need better revenue per user. Thats the reality.
