    It is somewhat true. In most poor countries poeple are utterly hopeless without basic needs. In Sri Lanka even the poorest have a fighting chance.

    Sri Lanka could be reckoned as a middle income (rich) country when you look at the comparative standard of living. However, I don't think it can be considered as a developed country.
    In a developed country, the President does not openly admit that MPs are taking bribes to change political sides and no action is taken against the culprits.
