no machn very few items have free shipping these days. unless the item+ shipping is worth the cost there's no point in buying from aliexpress
but some items can still be cheaper than buying locally

at the end of the day the shipping cost is covered somewhere by someone. if not borne by the buyer (added to list price) it's either by the seller or due to lower costs for shipping by subsidies or other efficiencies leading to lower costs.
