Installing a Genius ColorPage-Vivid 1200XE scanner in Ubuntu 14.04LTS
Step 1: Locate a small firmware file named 'CCD569.fw' with size 8KB in any location on the PC. This binary file is required by the XSane scanning package to correctly communicate with the scanner. The firmware file can be here:
Step 2: Open the terminal and type the command ''sudo nautilus'' command. This will open a file browser with root permissions.
Go to this path:''/usr/share/sane/'' and create a folder with name: ''gt68xx''
Copy the file ''CCD569.fw'' from where you have located it, into the folder ''/usr/share/sane/gt68xx''
Step 3: Close the file browser (with elevated permissions) and the terminal. Delete any 'temp' folder that you may have created.
You are now ready to start scanning with 'Xsane' and with 'Simple Scan' applications.
Note: Xsane is much better scanning package than Simple Scan becouse it give us a complete control of all possible parameters, which are automatically saved on exit.

ආධුනිකයින්ට ටිකක් අමාරු වැඩක්. නමුත් අමාරුවෙන් කරගන්නව නම් ගොඩක් හොඳයි.1) Set channels for the daemon
To set the default channels (5.1.) for the pulseaudio daemon we can edit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf as root and edit the following lines to
default-sample-channels = 6 enable-lfe-remixing = yes Note: Pulseaudio may not run properly if not a valid channel number is given.
2) Set a default card profile
Alternatively we may also define a default sound card profile in /etc/pulse/default.pa (or if defined for a user session only in ~/.pulse/default.pa).
set-card-profile <index> <name> where we need to give the <index> of the sound card (e.g. 0) and the <name>(e.g. "Digital Surround 5.1 (HDMI)") of the profile we want as default. Possible values are listed with the following command
pacmd list-sinksNote: for changes to settings files to take effect we need to restart the pulseaudio daemon by
pulseaudio -k
___________________________________________________________
By default, Ubuntu uses PulseAudio for its sound. Also by default, PulseAudio is set to 2 channels only. Enabling surround sound involves changing one line in the configuration file /etc/pulse/daemon.conf.
In the terminal, type the following:
gksu gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.confThis should open up the configuration file in gedit. Once open, scroll down to find the line ; default-sample-channels = 2. Remove the semicolon at the start of the line and change the line according to your surround sound configuration:
Save the file the restart your computer.
- For 2.0 channel sound: default-sample-channels = 2
- For 4.0 channel sound: default-sample-channels = 4
- For 5.0 channel sound: default-sample-channels = 5
- For 5.1 channel sound: default-sample-channels = 6
- For 7.1 channel sound: default-sample-channels = 8
