PhD tiyena godak un (rallata karapu un) nikan ala wenawa ban. Gihin uni wala balapan. Only some endup as consultants. Others just become lectures and probably release their frustration on students who learn from them. This is something common in SL.

I think the problem is Shitty SL mindest + Shitty out dated eductation system in SL

Sri Lanka job market is about servicing. For instance we don't do research we use products that were built with research and provide services. Simplest example: MORA ENTC teaches telcom theory. But we never use that knowledge to build anything, but we use tools built using that theory to do jobs. The only place we can use that knowledge is to go abroad and join some lab which most don't do. Basically Engineers do jobs technicians can do .


So basically our educational system doesn't output people that will contribute to OUR economy.

If the country needs to develop we need more research happening and more scientists coming in to the field and fields like that are physical science, bio science (?) etc. But what is the demand for that in our country? In SL the highest demand is for engineers and doctors .

So that is why I say that the entire education system is fucked up. All we have are good brains just like india, China and that IS WHY immigrants run other countries and NOT because our education system is good.

All you are saying is not about the education system its all about country's policy of not to spend on R&D and no plans for prevent brain drain. Demand in the country is created by government policies. Government's policy on not giving any recognition or not making any opportunities to science graduates is the real issue. Demand is madeup by country's policy and culture. We don't have an institution like NASA or India's ISRO. Meanwhile government is not creating opportunities to investors to invest on local skills. They don't want to, because skilled foreign workers bring money to Sri Lanka and Creating a research agency is not affordable and not be profitable sooner. We are in a cycle that letting brains drain and earning from them. But that earning will be over in one generation. Government officials will be dead by then noone to take the blame in the future. Engineers and Doctors are demanding in Sri Lanka just due to the culture. Not because of the market. current market has already made for IT professionals. Now we will have an opportunity if we brought foreign investors to hire them.

Naah in an IT related field but not SE.

Came out of Mora (ENTC). But the day I stepped out I decided never to step in to a Uni again. Fucking waste of time. And I am doing pretty well compared to the rest and enjoying what I am doing (Which is something most don't do). Until now I have had no regrets of my decision regarding what I did after uni.

I have seen a lot of fellows doing MScs, PHDs MBAs and shit without a clear goal. Pissu yakku ban. Just like doing CIMA when joining the uni.
