Many choose IT for money. I know students who changed from Bio stream to Maths stream just to be an SE due to the salary hike during covid. No one chooses civil for money. (Btw, I’m an IT person and I have no clue why people choose civil. Thats a different story)
So my point is, you will be doomed if you choose IT for money now. So choose it only if you have a passion for tech. Money is not guaranteed anymore, unless you are a born tech guy with a passion to learn about tech. The learning never stops. You’ll have to learn new things even when you have 10-15 years of experience. Otherwise the juniors will surpass you. I’ve seen that happen. I’ve seen people woth so much experience struggling in this field when they have children and commitments, and have no time to learn. If you do it without liking it, you will be burnt out and depressed soon. If you have the passion, you will thrive.

Another passion hypothesis argument. Bro, that's called the Passion Hypothesis. Read this book. you'll understand why simply having a passion for your career doesn't work anymore. It includes a lot of case studies showing that passion isn't what helps you succeed in a field. That idea is a myth. Total bullshit.

Very hard to recruit a civil engineer these days with at least 2,3 years experience, even NDT/ HND buggers are hard to find. I dont know what the fuck happened to them, I guess many are aboard or already employed, or being outsourced by foreign design firms. getting very few CVs. It will get worse as port city and highway projects are just getting started... So I guess tables have turned.
