    Yes, this phenomenon has been well observed before. Its a bit like in an adverse climate, plants and animals sensing it will take action to increase their population.

    When a lake dries, the frogs will increase their female numbers so that they can produce more eggs and increase their population. We humans have also started to produce more females than males, perhaps as a response to climatic stress - which is why we have more females outnumbering males, which was the opposite case few decades ago (see SL census 2024).

    So it is probably true that plants feel the stress too and will bear seeds and fruits to increase their population.

    How plants and animals can "sense" the stress is a bit of a mystery though. We know that when a human mother is stressed out, she has a higher chance of bearing a female child, rather than a male child. This probably happens through secretion of stress hormones like cortisol and androgens. But how they can anticipate future adverse conditions is a big mystery
