Multigrade oils have base oil + viscosity modifiers. Think of viscosity modifiers as a coiled spring of sorts

So in a 10W30 oil the base oil has a viscosity of SAE10 when the engine is cold, viscosity modifiers are fully curled up

As the engine warms up the viscosity modifiers unfurl themselves, like coiled springs getting uncoiled. At operating temperature, that unfurled viscosity modifiers "thicken" the oil to act like SAE 30 oil, even as the SAE 10 base oil "thins".

As the engine cools down the viscosity modifiers curls again, making the oil "thinner" down to the viscosity of the base oil which is SAE10.

So essentially a 10W30 multigrade oil has a viscosity of SAE10 when the engine is cold and a viscosity of SAE30 when the engine is at operating temperature.

එහෙම කියල තුනී ඔයිල් එකක් දැම්මොත්, එන්ජිම රත්වෙද්දි තවත් තුනී වෙලා වතුර වගේ වෙනව.

අඩු උෂ්නත්වයෙක්දි 10W වැඩ කරනව
රත්වුණාට පස්සෙ 30W වැඩ කරනව

සෙල්සියස් අංශක 30 දි 10W ඔයිල් එකක තියෙන විස්කොසිටි එක = 100C දි 30 ඔයිල් එකක විස්කොසිටි එක

Viscosity = දුශ්‍රාවීතාවය = ද්‍රවයක් ගලාගෙන යාමට ඇති අකමැත්ත = උකුගතිය

Yeah the best way to explain it is that the two numbers have nothing to do with each other at all.

So it's wrong to say when it comes to multigrade oil

Viscosity @ 0C = Viscosity @ 100C

Rather,

(1) At 0C, a 10W30 multigrade oil would flow as how a SAE10 monograde oil would flow at 0C

(2) At 100C, a 10W30 multigrade oil would flow as how a SAE30 monograde oil would flow at 100C

There is no similarity whatsoever between these two. How oil flows at (1) is not similar to how oil flows at (2).
