    Haunted Hotel

    Review of Heritance Tea Factory
    Reviewed August 6, 2015

I just did a quick search to see if anyone else had the same experience, and it looks like someone else also experienced ghosts. I'm not a particularly spiritual or superstitious person. I didn't believe in ghosts before staying here. My wife and I were there for one night on our honeymoon, and it was the most bizarre experience. After dinner in the train car (which was really nice), we went upstairs to go to bed. We turned the lights off, hit the sack, and things got spooky. Dogs howling outside, strange noises outside the room, a chill that came and went even with the windows shut. And I can't really explain it, or prove it. But I just got this weird feeling, and all the hair on my body stood on end. After laying in bed for an hour staring at the ceiling, I assumed my wife was asleep. But she felt it too, and we had both been laying there dead quiet trying not to make any movements. After we realized that neither one of us could doze off, we turned the lights on in the room. We couldn't sleep a wink.

We were exhausted the next day and had to go on a 5 hour hike, so that was pretty rough. But we made it through, and it gave us an interesting story of our trip. We were telling our guide on the hike about what had happened to us the night before, and he said it was well known that this hotel is haunted. Locals who have worked there have reported seeing things, experiencing things. I'm sure the hotel staff will vigorously deny it, but this place has ghosts.

I should also point out that the decor of the place oddly glorifies the English occupation of Sri Lanka, where they basically enslaved the locals and forced them to pick tea leaves. So that's kind of weird. I imagine if I were Sri Lankan I might be offended by that, but whatever.

The hotel itself is lovely. The staff is pleasant. It's really an awesome hotel. Except for the ghosts.

    Dear Valued Guest,

We thank you for having stayed at Heritance Tea Factory and we are really grateful for the suggestive comments you have given on TripAdvisor. Please note that we have taken your feedback in a very positive way. Many thanks for your applauds on the hotel itself and the staff.

We would like you to kindly consider the fact that due to the altitude of the hotel, there are frequent heavy winds and the sound of the wind on some days could be strange and may sound eerie. Also please note that dogs howling outside is a common occurrence in the late nights as many villagers keep their dogs tied to prevent them causing damage to their vegetation.

Please note that we, the Sri Lankans honor both the positive gains of English occupation and the generations of plantation workers for their contribution towards building the economy of the country including the decor of the establishment and the attire/uniforms of our staff.

We warmly invite you to pay another visit to us so that we would offer you a more appealing and enjoyable stay for you all.

Yours sincerely, Roshanlal Perera, General Manager, Heritance Tea Factory.
