They quote Buddha's teachings and say buddhists should be satisfied with what they have got. But that's not what Buddha meant. He only told the monks to be satisfied with whatever complementary stuff that are not directly needed to achieve the main goal. Our dumb Buddhists apply it to essential things like food and money, and suffer the lifetime and also get jealous at wealthy people.

The same goes for worshipping. People have severely misunderstood it's origin and aim. I'm not going to type more as this is already too lengthy. Will explain in detail if I'm quoted.

Yes, it does contribute. Present day Buddhism is not exactly what the Buddha preached or taught. Every religion is misinterpreted. Some totally misinterpreted.

But this actually predates Buddhism. Ancestor worship (dead & alive) is all over the world from the American Indians to the Chinese. The stronger the worship of ancestors, the lower is the anthropological level.

I think this worshiping behavior comes from our primate roots.
In chimpanzees, there is a strict dominance hierarchy among males.
One way this dominance hierarchy is practiced in the chimp society is by the behavior of
lower-ranking males performing acts of submission to the higher-ranking ones.
Which take the form of lower ranking one crouching or bowing down in front of the higher ranking male.
I think this is what we witness when we see acts of veneration or worship in humans.
Of course, we humans give a different meaning to these things through our ideologies,
which can take the form of religion, manners, discipline, decorum, civility ancestor worship, etc.
But at the end of the day, we humans are a species of primates.
We are fundamentally unable to transcend our biological roots.
