Statement by the Jaffna University Science Teachers’ Association
Some unwanted incidents related to the freshers’ welcome party led to violent clashes among the Students today. Some students were injured and are being treated in the hospital. As a result, the Science Faculty is closed to the students and all the students are returning to their homes.
We strongly condemn the violent actions of some of the students. We urge all citizens of this country to do all they could to defuse the situation and help all students to resume their studies in the University at the earliest.

Statement by the Jaffna University Teachers’ Association
We, the members of the University of Jaffna Teachers’ Association (UJTA), are deeply worried about the recent clash among the students at the University of Jaffna. We unequivocally condemn all the students who were involved in this clash. We would like to assure the people of the country that we will take every necessary step to protect the cultural rights of each student community at our university and bring about unity among the different student groups. While expressing our dismay over the violent incident that occurred yesterday, the 16th of July 2016 in the Faculty of Science, we recognize that the University of Jaffna and all the other universities in the country are multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural spaces. We appeal to the students, staff, employees and administrators of all the universities in the country, including our own, to work towards keeping the university space free of violence and cultural intolerance and creating harmony and solidarity among student groups.

යාපනය සරසවියේ සීදු වී ඇතැයි පැවසෙන පහරදීම සම්බන්දව බොහෝ සටහන් මුහුණු පොත තුළ සැරි සරනවා දුටීමි.
දකුණේ සරසවි සිසුන් පල කළ සටහන් වඩා ආකර්ශනීයය.
උත්ප්රාශය වන්නේ, මේ සටහන් පළ කරනවුන් දකුණේ සරසවි වල පහරදීම් තවමත් සිදු කරමින් ඉන්නා නිසාය.
ඒ වාගේම දකුණේ සරසවිවල කළ පහරදීම් සම්බන්ධව වචනයකදු කතා නොකළ සහ තමන්ට සිදුකළ, වෙනස්කොට සැළකීමට පවා එරෙහි නොවූවෝ, තියුනු විවේචකයන් ලෙස මේ සිදුවීමේදී සටහන් පළ කිරීමයි.
(මා කිසිම විටකවත් යාපනය සරසවියේ සිද්දිය සාධාරණීකරනය කරන්නේ නැත. එමෙන්ම එවැනි වාතාවරනයන් නවතා ගැණීමට හැකි ඉක්මනින් කටයුතු කළ යුතුව ඇත.)
මේ බොහෝ සටහන් තුළ (මහා සමාජයේ වුවද) ගැබ්ව ඇත්තේ, දෙමළාගෙන් සිංහලයා ගුටිකෑම පිළිබඳ තරහ සහ ද්වේෂයයි.
දකුණේ සිංහල විද්දාර්තියාගෙන් ගුටිකන සිංහල විද්දාර්තීන් ගැන කතා නොකරන, සංජීවලා, ලහිරුලා අත්අඩංගුවට ගද්දී ඊට විරෝදය නොපාන, අද්ධාපනය ධනවාදී තර්කනයට හසු කරද්දී ඊට එරෙහි නොවන වුන් නින්දෙන් ඇහැරුනා සේ දැන් කටයුතු කරයි.
බදූර්ජීන් වනාන්තර විනාශ කරද්දී ඊට බොහෝ වුන් එරෙහි වූයේ බදූර්ජීන් මුස්ලීම් නිසාය. ඒ ඒ වනවිටත් දකුණේ රාජ්ය ත්රස්තවාදය යටතේ බොහෝ මිනිසුන් මරා දැමීම ගැන වචනයකදු කතා නොකළ වුන්ය.
සිංහල - බෞද්ධ සාමූහික විඥානය වැඩ කරන්නේ එළෙසය.
