most politicians and corporations would like to do away with the publicly funded systems so they can move towards a profit based system (healthcare, transport, education etc..)

There is nothing to FREE, for every fucking free utility, someone has to pay.
please don't cling to certain words, get the meaning as a whole.

All I want to say, the free public utilities have been given to us as political bait, I don't deny those utilities have a great impact on the HDI. profit-based utilities mean better investments, better funding, better wages. and better R&D. that's why these countries have better universities, better hospitals, etc.

never said it was free. paid for by taxation and not magic which seems to be the conclusion you seem to have arrived after reading my comment

sad that you don't seem to follow your own advice
while I would concur profit/competition driven industries can do a lot of good in most scenarios and would provide the benefits you've mentioned, in some sectors it can have negative effects as well. (look at the healthcare system at US as an example).
but I don't agree with the notion that all public utilities are just bait or an illusion meant to keep masses under a spell
