TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) passed an impressive milestone in July, producing its one-billionth, defect-free 7-nanometer chip.
According to a TSMC , the company has manufactured 7 nm chips for over 100 products and dozens of different customers. The amount of silicon used to make those chips is enough to cover 13 Manhattan city blocks, and with more than 1 billion transistors per chip, that is over one quintillion (a billion billion) 7nm transistors.
The company pointed out that its 7 nm process was able to achieve “high-volume production faster than any other TSMC technology before.” TSMC was also the first to use extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography in the commercial production of 7 nm chips, whereby the shorter wavelength of EUV light makes it easier to print nanometer-scale features on processors.
TSMC is the world’s largest semiconductor foundry and supplies some of the biggest global tech companies, like Apple and AMD. The Taiwanese companies 7 nm chips are not only in PCs, tablets, and smartphones, but in data centers, vehicles, and used to perform sophisticated training and inferencing for artificial intelligence.

    ඕක කරන්න බැරි ප්‍රශ්නයක් නෙවෙයි ඇත්තෙ ලයිසන් ප්‍රශ්නයක්. IP කේස් එකක් වගේ ඇති.
China doesn't have the 7nm lithography (going to be 5 nm soon) and the production equipment. Even the current equipment they have is sourced from the US. So there could be an issue.

intel blueprint දුන්නා kiyanne mokakda ban ?
Does anyone remember Bill Gaede? He worked in AMD & Intel and supposedly passed the entire Pentium fabrication technology to China & Russia via the Cubans. (in the 1990's)
There was a movie or a documentary on this. I don't really remember the name of it. Industrial espionage will be well & alive always.

True... but 64 bit architectures were available prior to this. Apart from the mainframes, MIPS had the R6000 and DEC had the 64 bit Alpha series. There were some other proprietary 64bit RISC processors too.
BTW at that time many referred to the Itanium project as Itanic!
