Yes I agree... But they have given us dates more than once... I don't remember details for I never took them seriousely.
We can't judge what people think by a poll.. but it is interesting to watch... like a cricket match...

they give such dates just to boost the morale of the people which is very important in a war situation. Like what LTTE do with giving huge publicity to their small successes.
Any way the current situation is different than those days where politicians directly ordered to the forces and fixed time tables to achieve targets. But now though the politicians say dates and giving time tables for targets, forces are actualy not working according to that and they are working under a proper plan and directed by their chiefs. So I don't think it's a problem because thats the best way to go.
