Both "take somebody at their word" and "take somebody's word for it" have the same meaning.
take somebody at their word = to decide to believe exactly what someone tells you, even if it does not seem likely to be true.
take somebody's word for it = to believe that something is true because someone tells you it is, without making sure that it really is true.
Examples:
1. When he said he'd give me a job, I took him at his word and turned up the next day at his office.
2. If you say you've checked the money I'll take your word for it.
3. Don't just take her word for it. Go and see for yourself.
