Interesting point machan. I too think that some of the stuff in Buddhism is quite depressing and forces the people to suffer rather than enjoy the life.
On the other hand cult type religions are about celebrating life and of course funding the pastors lavish life. But then again we fund the thattayas lavish lifestyles these days by donating stuff to the temple. So dekama ekai wage.

I have a cousin who recently joined with this kind of group. He Joined because his GF is a member of that religious group. Honestly, I noticed some changes of his attitude afterwards. Now he thinks and sees the things more positively and seems like he is happy doing everything. Previously, he complained about the things in the job in the meal etc. But now he isn't like that anymore. I don't know this is due to his GF or the religious group.

Correction, Chatholics/Christians/Muslims etc use the phrase "Gods wish (dewiyange kamaththa)". It is a bit like the same execuse buddhist will give but yeah those religions aren't depressing as buddhism.
