Women only bus service launched

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said that the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) would recruit women drivers and conductors in the near future.
Young women who were obsessed with the fear of unemployment would be able to secure job opportunities through this programme, he said.
Harassment to women in public transport had been increasing. Therefore he decided to launch a bus service exclusively for women, he said at ppening Ceremony of the Kottawa – Pettah bus service recently.
Minister Welgama said that bus services for women would be expanded island-wide in the near future. The SLTB would take steps to provide a safe bus service for women with security.
He added that when the Matara – Colombo Expressway is opened, the SLTB would commence a luxury bus service on it. Women with necessary qualifications would be recruited as drivers and conductors.
