Thank you for your interest in the Food Science Graduate Program at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Land and Food Systems.
    http://www.landfood.ubc.ca/graduate/programs/food-science-msc

    Admission Requirements and Procedures

For admission requirements and procedures, please visit web sites for the Faculties of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies https://www.grad.ubc.ca/ and Land and Food Systems www.landfood.ubc.ca

Program admission requirements may exceed those of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Meeting the admission requirements does not necessarily mean admission into the program.
Admission is recommended for students providing evidence of thorough preparation and outstanding ability and who have a confirmed research supervisor.

Students are encouraged to apply early as most positions for new graduate students are filled before the advertised Faculty deadlines. On line Applications - Apply On Line

Students are responsible for ensuring that their application and supporting documents are received by the Graduate Programs Coordination office well before the application deadlines as considerable time may be required to complete the evaluation process.

Note: International students requiring Student Authorization to enter Canada should submit their applications at least six months before the proposed date of admission to avoid delays in visa processing. Please check the Faculty of Graduate Studies web site for more information.

    The application fee is non-refundable.

In many instances students pursuing research-based degrees are encouraged to commence their programs in May so that they can initiate their research program before course work commences in September.

For admission requirements and procedures, please visit web sites for the Faculties of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies https://www.grad.ubc.ca/ and Land and Food Systems www.landfood.ubc.ca

For admission to the M.Sc. program, the applicant must have completed requirements as specified by the Faculty of Graduate Studies web site http://www.grad.ubc.ca/apply/how/require.asp

For admission with full standing into the M.Sc. program, applicants from a Canadian or American university or college must hold a bachelor degree or its academic equivalent with a minimum overall average in the B+ range (at UBC 76% or higher) in all third and fourth year courses. Minimum academic requirements for students from other countries are specified on the Faculty of Graduate Studies web site (http://www.grad.ubc.ca/apply/how/require.asp).

For students whose degree was not completed in English, minimum TOEFL scores are 577 (paper version), or 233 (computer version), or 90 (Internet version).
IELTS – 6.5 with no band less than 6

We do NOT require GMAT or GRE test.

The following subjects are prerequisites for the M. Sc. program and normally are taken before entering the program. Should a student have deficiencies in any of these areas, it may be possible to make up these deficiencies during the M.Sc. program. However, only up to 6 credits of Food Science core courses may be counted as credit towards the MSc requirements.

    It is possible.

    First,
    (1) go to university web pages (there are many universities) and look for profs websites. From that you can get idea about the research areas

    http://www.landfood.ubc.ca/research/

Then read those areas of each prof as much as possible and find an area what you are looking or interested in.

    (2) write directly to the professor saying that I am interested about these areas with some description etc. (don't just say I want to do a msc under your superstition) . profs are interested in your motivation. There are sample letters in internet

Usually in Canada, profs have grants. If they are interested, they can give an offer (financial aid). Building contacts is important. There are Sri Lankan profs too.
