Official: AC Milan loan Matri to Lazio

    alesaandromatricropped_1whawjpzkjnl11e2p4g3t0o8o2.jpg

Alessandro Matri has left AC Milan once again to join Serie A rivals Lazio on a season-long loan deal just over three months after consigning the Rome club to defeat in the Coppa Italia final.

The 31-year-old striker spent time at Genoa and Juventus during the 2014-15 campaign and has now been allowed to make the move to the Stadio Olimpico.
Matri scored Juve's winner in the Coppa final against Lazio back in May, so the experienced frontman will be eager to hit the ground running in order to win over his new club's fans.

The arrivals of Carlos Bacca, Mario Balotelli and Luiz Adriano ensured Matri's chances of featuring for Milan this season looked even more slim.

Deadline blunder sees De Gea's Real Madrid move fall through

    1755092_heroa.jpg

David De Gea's move to Real Madrid from Manchester United has fallen through.

Reports suggested that Madrid and United initiated talks on Monday with the hope of striking a deal for the Spaniard, but it has now emerged that the required documents did not arrive at the headquarters of La Liga on time, thus scuppering the switch.

De Gea, 24, has not featured for United since pre-season, missing all six Premier League and Champions League play-off games after Louis van Gaal became concerned that interest from Los Blancos had unsettled the keeper.

United appeared to have finally caved to De Gea's sale on the final day of the Spanish transfer window, with Keylor Navas set to join the Red Devils in a part-exchange, along with a fee of £29 million.

However, the deal failed to beat the clock, and it appears that Navas will also remain with his current club, given the linked nature of the transfers.

Unlike the Premier League, La Liga are unlikely to grant either club an extension past the deadline to complete their business.

Official: Roma sign Ponce & Emerson

    ezequiel-ponce-newells-old-boys_74cknefoxnrr1m1m4hm5rmwxi.jpg

Roma have confirmed the arrivals of Emerson Palmieri and Ezequiel Ponce from Santos and Newell's Old Boys respectively.

The Giallorossi have been busy in the transfer window, signing the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Lucas Digne, Mohamed Salah, Antonio Rudiger and Edin Dzeko. And they have pushed two late deals over the line late on Serie A's deadline day, moving for the Brazilian defender and the Argentine attacker.

Emerson, who joins on loan, spent last season at Palermo and made nine first-team appearances for the Sicilians.

Ponce, meanwhile, arrives on a permanent deal for an initial €4.2 million having signed a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico side.

:(Man Utd and Real Madrid desperate to revive De Gea deal

    1811862_heroa.jpg

Manchester United and Real Madrid will attempt to revive David de Gea's move to the Bernabeu on Tuesday after the deal fell through on Monday night.

Madrid were unable to complete the deal to sign De Gea, which would see Keylor Navas move to Old Trafford, after the Spanish transfer deadline passed without the National Professional Football League [LFP] receiving the necessary paperwork to verify the switch.

But Goal understands United insist they registered the necessary documents on Fifa's transfer matching system in time for the deal to go through.

Both clubs are desperate to complete the transfer, and Goal understands they will make presentations to Fifa and the LFP on Tuesday.

De Gea had been expected to make his long-awaited move to Madrid on Monday before the late confusion on deadline day in Spain.

The Spain international has sat out United's opening fixtures of the new season, while Louis van Gaal has moved to sign Sergio Romero and make the 28-year-old his No.1 goalkeeper.

:(:(:(Di Maria: I left because I clashed with Van Gaal

    angel-di-maria-paris-saint-germain_1vrt6v4cq0xk31x2ihmmzqtkl4.jpg

Angel Di Maria has revealed that problems fitting into Louis van Gaal's philosophy were behind him leaving Manchester United this summer.

The Argentine, 27, was signed with much fanfare last August, arriving at Old Trafford for a club record €75 million following a Champions League-winning season with Real Madrid.

However, Di Maria struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and ended up joining French champions Paris Saint-Germain for €63m earlier this month.

Following his impressive debut off the bench against Monaco – in which he assisted the third goal in the 3-0 with a fantastic through ball for Ezequiel Lavezzi from his own half – the versatile midfielder opened up about why he left United.

"Van Gaal has his philosophy and one of the reasons I wanted to go to Manchester United is because of that factor," he told ESPN Radio."However, it was difficult to adapt to Van Gaal's workings. I had a couple of run-ins with him.

"It started well for me but then I got injured. When I came back, Van Gaal changed my position. When I spoke to PSG coach Laurent Blanc he said he'd play me in the position I had for Real Madrid."

Di Maria also discussed the importance of Lionel Messi to the Argentina set-up.
The Barcelona forward has been publicly vilified in his home country, but his international team-mate thinks reaching a third consecutive major tournament final will be tough without Messi.“The next Copa America is our main goal now,” he added. “People didn't see the state of our dressing room after losing this summer's final – we were destroyed.

“We do not want to lose another final. Messi is the most important player to our team, by a long way. Without him, it would be much more difficult.“When things don't work out in football, of course you hurt. It's even more painful when a comrade is slaughtered by the press.”

The Copa America Centenario in 2016 is a special edition to celebrate 100 years since the first South American finals, taking place in USA and featuring a bumper 16 sides.

'Reliable Stones would strengthen Chelsea' - Willian

    john-stones_1ek642pd4qz91kuf0hqr55p02.jpg

John Stones is a reliable defender who would strengthen Jose Mourinho's squad as Chelsea look to get their ailing Premier League title defence back on track, according to Brazil international Willian.

The 21-year-old saw a transfer request rejected by Everton last week and Roberto Martinez remains bullish over his desire to keep his prized asset at Goodison Park for at least another season.

Everton have already rebuffed three formal bids from Chelsea for Stones and while he admits he has no idea whether a deal will be done before Tuesday's deadline, Willian believes the promising Englishman would be an asset at Stamford Bridge.

"He is a good defender," Willian told Goal. "I heard some news - of course there is nothing concrete, but I've heard about it.

"It is obvious that he is a good defender, but we do not know yet whether he will come or not. But we also have good defenders here in our team.

"Last season, our defenders did an excellent season, but he is a reliable defender, so, if he comes, he will surely come to help us and to strengthen us even more."

An underwhelming four points from their first four Premier League matches means Chelsea already trail title rivals Manchester City by eight points this season, but Willian is confident that the Blues have plenty of time to repair the damage.

"Oh, it's just the beginning," he added. "The beginning is always difficult, although we have not started the way we wanted.

"The Premier League is always difficult. I think that lots of things are about to happen. We are still at the beginning of the championship, we have many games ahead and I hope that we can achieve a sequence of victories."

    Milan wanted Witsel - Galliani

    alexwitsel-cropped_1rw595i3zqoft1bidmdxoykm1a.jpg

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said the club tried to sign Axel Witsel but were unable to complete a transfer before the Serie A transfer window closed on Monday.Sinisa Mihajlovic was keen to bolster his midfield after revealing his disappointment at his side's start to the campaign, only for Zenit to demand €100 million for Witsel.

Milan and several other suitors - Tottenham and Chelsea were credited with an interest - were understandably unwilling to pay his release clause, meaning he remains a Zenit player."We tried to the end for Witsel, but we knew it would finish this way," Galliani told reporters.

While Milan failed to add to the signings of Carlos Bacca, Alessio Romagnoli, Luiz Adriano and Mario Balotelli, both Alessandro Matri and Hachim Mastour were loaned out to Lazio and Malaga respectively.

Official: Song seals West Ham loan return

    1553212_heroa.jpg

West Ham have confirmed Alex Song has returned to the club on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Goal reported on Monday that Slaven Bilic was hopeful of completing three transfers before Tuesday's 1800BST deadline, with the midielder's return the first to be ticked off the list.

Song impressed initally at Upton Park last season before his form fell off towards the end of the campaign, with co-chairman David Sullivan admitting a permanent move would be a gamble for the club.

But the 27-year-old had his loan return to West Ham confirmed by David Gold earlier on Tuesday, with Sullivan's son, Jack, claiming on Monday evening that the club retain the option to extend by a further year.

"I am very happy," Song told the club's official website. "For me it was very important to come back because when I was here I had a great rapport with the fans and the Club.

"It was a very easy choice for me to come back. When I left I didn't know I would come back here. It was not easy but at the end of the day, the most important thing is I'm here now and I'm very happy.

"I feel at home, everything feels at home, for my family too, they're set up very well here. My kids are playing for West Ham academy. It's a pleasure and it's like I never left here.

"This is a new year, new players have come in and we have the new manager. Everything is changing but the way that the Club wants to be [...] and we have to finish better than we did last year."

Strootman to undergo more knee surgery

    kevin-strootman-napoli-roma_1qumv2fn3oude1fzdqirughb3b.jpg

Roma star Kevin Strootman has revealed he will have another operation on his injured left knee on Tuesday.

The Netherlands international was ruled out of last summer's World Cup after suffering a torn cruciate ligament that kept him out of action for nine months.

Strootman then made his comeback towards the end of 2014 but cartilage damage - brought on by a condition called Cyclops Syndrome - has kept him on the sidelines ever since. The 25-year-old was expected to return at the start of this season but has been advised to have yet another operation in a bid to save his career.

In a lengthy post on Twitter, he said: "There has been a lot of speculation in the media about my rehabilitation."Unfortunately due to a lack of power in my left leg I can't compete at the highest level right now. Over the last few weeks we have consulted many top professors from all over.

"They have recommended - along with the Roma medical staff - that I have the ACL reconstructed into another position in order for me to have less problems with my knee in the future and to regain my power again."I will undergo surgery this morning. I am hugely disappointed I can't contribute to Roma and the Dutch national team for the next few months but will everything to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible."

Roma signed Strootman from PSV in July 2013 and was continually linked with a move to Manchester United before suffering multiple knee problems.

Official: Everton complete Funes Mori deal

    1787982_heroa.jpg

Everton have completed the signing of Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate for £9.5 million.

A deal for the 24-year-old has been in the offing for a number of days, with Funes Mori in attendance for Everton's 2-0 loss to Manchester City on August 23, and the Argentine has now penned a five-year deal.

Funes becomes Roberto Martinez's sixth summer signing after the arrivals of Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu, David Henen, Mason Holgate and Leandro Rodriguez and will wear the No.25 shirt.

"I'm going to give it 100 per cent every time I go out there to play for Everton," he told the club's offical website. "When I heard about their interest, I didn't think twice."

Funes Mori recently won the Copa Libertadores with River Plate, having made over 100 appearances for the Argentine outfit since arriving in 2011.

The 24-year-old is not believed to have been signed as a replacement for John Stones, who is still the subject of serious interest from Chelsea.

Rooney asked me who Martial was - Schneiderlin

    anthony-martial-monaco_1c73qmq1bs4k71bqvdg8akh2yo.jpg

Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed that Wayne Rooney had to ask him who Anthony Martial was when it was confirmed that the 19-year-old was nearing a move to Manchester United.

Martial was granted leave by France national team boss Didier Deschamps on Monday to fly to England and finalise a deal reported to be worth up to €80m with United, and is expected to be confirmed at Old Trafford before the close of the English transfer window on Tuesday.

The deal has surprised many given that Martial has played less than 50 Ligue 1 matches for Monaco and has yet to make a senior appearance for France, and Schneiderlin revealed that United captain Rooney approached him to find out more about his potential new strike partner.

"To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak," Schneiderlin told reporters at France's training base at Clairefontaine.

"I told him he's a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this.

"I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it's the press who are making that comparison."

The deal to take Martial to United will make him the most expensive teenager in the history of football, and Schneiderlin is keen to ensure that the 19-year-old does not feel the weight of his price tag when he arrives at Old Trafford.

"The size of the fee? If he wants my advice, it is to ignore it," the former Southampton man added. "The media will talk a lot and will expect him to score many goals. But he must remember his qualities and play like he knows how. He can't be paralysed by it. I think everything will go well."
