I think comparing with other countries ..... the best place to Live & best place to die is in Srilanka.....

I don't know about economic issues... but comparing to other countries it's not that much bad.

People...try to go abroad, thinking that Srilanka is not a good place to live ... from my opinion ...they do n no the value of their mother land...
I know ...some of my friends went abroad..for jobs....wht r they doing there???
they wash toilets...wrking in Gas stations....
wht da hell....y we shld do foreigners dirty works...

i think we shld return da bst we got 2 our mother land...coz she raises us,she feeds us...
and dis is di Only Place we hve ...dat we can proudly say....

Interesting topic, I'm actually have a personal stake in the questions, recently came from Canada (born and raised) and thinking of settling in Sri Lanka for a while.
So far have been here a few months and honestly can't really say one country is better than the other, it all comes down to what you are looking for. Even the 'quality of life' index by UN isn't really an accurate indication of the 'best' place to live.
While in Canada I had often made it a point to ask new immigrants (Chinese, Suddanse, Punjabi, Romanian, French... ect) what they thought of Canada and how they were finding life here. I'd say about 90% wanted to go back home, the main issues being lack of family support, being treated as an outsider, and the weather (well with -30 C winters, what can one do). Though most of them also said they could make more money in Canada - they weren't happy but had money...
Personally while I miss some things in Canada, Sri Lanka really is a great place to live... there is so much potenial here. You would not believe how many Canadians would give their left leg to live on a tropical island where +20 C is a cold day. Unfortunately still haven't decided if I should stay or not, well have until May so if anyone does have advice willing to listen.
Oh, though to sum up, there is no real 'best' overall - it really comes down to the lifestyle you want and what you are willing to give up, there are always trade offs.

People live abroad do know the value of Sri Lanka better than people live in Sri Lanka I think.

Washing toilets is not a common jobs for Sri Lankans. But I'm not telling people don't do it.

Anyway this attitude is what's wrong in Sri Lanka.
Why do you say washing a toilet is a dirty work? Don't you wash your toilet?
In western countries it is considered to be a hard and a valuable job. Bacause only a few can do that job and we really need them to have our toilets clean. So we really love them and treat them as gentlemen.

Normaly a cleaner would earn around $1000 for a week. A normal office worker would earn around $1500 a week. So we all live in the same situation and same status. But the Sri Lankan attitude creates an impression saying some jobs are good and some jobs are dirty. That's the attitude which leaves us in our current situation. and I'm sure because of that attitude many people have left the country. (e.g. The mechanics of German Tech)

1. Do you know dark skinned [this mean you n me, not African..including fair Asians.] people bullied ,criticized n generally considered as terrorists [there are organized gangs in many countries considered them selves as social scavengers in attacking who ever dark skinned]
2. Do you think hospitality is as good as ours? will they offer every bit of help ,like us doing for every white skinned, if u ll be the neighbor of...?
3. Do you think you ll buy a bread for 30 rupees or box of matches for 2 rupees? of course cost of living is much more less in here[ i admit salaries are not as impressive n attractive as in most of the countries]
4. Do you think getting vehicle house n good salary fulfill every thing you need?
5. By far do you think every bit of services..education health n others will provide free every where?
   
6. do you think the weather is like here in sri lanka..how many days of sunlight,rain,snow...?
   
7. Do you think sri lanka is that worse to live in..do you know some europian concidered that they would have born here insted.
