Not only their shipping issue. But also they are doing a tax scam as well. Their so-called tax amounts mentioned in quotations are higher than the actual value. About a year ago, I ordered a miniature instrumental microphone from ebay in the usual way. When it arrived I had to pay a 7% percent tax (5% PAL and 2% NBT) at the post office. As an experiment, I put the same ebay link on Kapruka website and asked for a quotation. They sent a quotation with a tax percentage around 15%!! Another more recent expamle… I requested a quotation for an astronomical telescope which was for sale in Amazon. They sent a quotation with a 12% percent tax. But when I checked with all the available circulars in Srilanka customs web site it is again just 5% PAL and 2% NBT. When I inquired about this they repied 'Dear sir, please submit another request'. Initially I thought they have accepted their mistake and going to correct it. But when I made the same price request again they came up with the same result! They are not giving any explanation for that. So where is this extra 'tax' amount that Kapruka charges really go? Must be to their own pocket. Isn't this a scam? And also who knows that they may not even be paying the required tax amount to the customs and escape by paying some 'jaraawa' to a customs officer? It is totally unacceptable to charge additional 'tax' amount while they are already charging a commission of 5%, so-called 'Kapruka fee'. I think this must be informed to the customs and other relevant authorities to take necessary actions.
