ලොරි චැසි වලට BUS BODY ගහපු ලෝකේ ඇති එකම සමගම LEYLAND එක . ඕක කරාම මැරෙන්න හැදුවා ඒදවස්වල මිනිස්සු. නමුත් 60 ගණවල කරපු දේ මිනිස්සුන්ට තේරුම් ගන්න අවුරුද්දක් වත් ගියේ නැහැ.

Ashok Leyland ලංකාවට 83 එන්න කලින් Lanka Leyland කියන ලංකා රජයට අයත් ආයතනය තිබිලා තියනවා,එ කියන්නෙ British Leyland මුල් අවධියෙම ලේලන්ඩ් සමාගම මෙහේ තිබිලා තියෙනවා.

Good post

Old British Leyland buses (and trucks) second to none. Before Ashok Leyland and Tata came in to CTB, British Leyland and Mercedes Benz was the backbone of passenger transportation. Werahara, and ekala, are the main CTB bus body building workshops, while Pettigalawaththa, Kahagolla and Madawachchiya reigional workshops also contribute to the same.
Old Ashok Leyland and Tata also very tough vehicles, but when Isuzu (DA 120, 6BD1) being introduced to CTB in late seventies (23 sri 6000 onwards) Indian quality being challenged by Japan.
Isuzu is good quality vehicles, but not as tough as Indian products. As a school kid I look curiously when Isuzu engine starts with half compression and the lever push down to get the full compression.
Then came the Lanka Leyland, and the good old quality disappear in to thin air.
As a footnote, I would like to say the sound of 'MERCEDED BENZ 352' , was the best sound (specially climbing hills, upward/downward gear changing, coming downhill with exhaust brakes), and your post took me to that good old days. Thanks.
