FYI - Chemical Engineering degrees are the worst I know. Especially from Moratuwa. There is a huge knowledge gap between them and the people from the Science Faculty. Chemistry Special students From science faculties are far ahead in terms of knowledge that's why they have more probability of getting scholarships from foreign universities. And People from Science faculties also working as Chemical Engineers in some companies. Analytical Chemists in Moratuwa have a hard time filling these knowledge gaps of inexperienced probationary lecturers from Engineering faculties. And most of these lecturers don't know how to google and always come with questions instead of searching. No research skills.

Z-Score based on a Quota. Some people with High Z scores from Colombo are selected into Science faculties but some people from Nuwara Eliya or Badulla etc are selected into Engineering with lower Z-Scores. Therefore you cannot differentiate between 2 sets of people. Science faculty people who did Maths as a subject will go deeper in mathematics than Engineering students. If they did CS parallelly will do that too. IMO IESL should consider people who did maths in science faculties but work in an Engineering position, as an engineer. That is the fair option.

yeah that could be true. but most of the distant district fellows with low zscores fall out in to low demanding fields like material and mech. and if they get in to fields like electronic or cse, you have to admit that the student is skilled regardless of the zscore. if there are worthy graduates from degrees other than engineering, best thing is to standardize the degree more up to an engineering degree with introducing more math modules or just to conduct exams from IESL for the missing math and other modules then award the membership. but claiming titles without the membership cannot be accepted. it's not just an id card and a membership letter. there's a legal bond for the engineer with the ethics code to the society, which is not known or followed by wanna be engineers, which was proven in the same thread by some wannabe engineers and even some "software architects"

i have no problem allowing engineer registration even for uscs people after taking the missing modules compared to an engineering degree either at IESL exam level or cpd course or something. but nobody should take the engineer designation unless they have the IESL associate membership. even for CSE graduates who only remembers it when they need a loan. I blame IESL for their only write the law - no implementation policy. compared to the other professional institutions like SLMC, bar association/ law equivalent
