I don't need to read that much about this as I'm an engineer and i can see so many work arounds if Sri Lanka decides to ban Starlink in Sri Lanka. Law is for people to do stuff nicely Hell even paypal is not supported in Sri Lanka and I'm sure no Sri Lankan uses it because 'Regulations' Once stuff are put together there is nothing much Regulation can do about that except to arrest people and fine them. Since Sri Lanka is not blocking anything on Internet and has no interest in regulating what websites we have access to, only thing they will do is add an VAT on top of Starlink charges and that will be the end of it.

I suppose the 1.2tb package GT was referring to is web life @ 20k/month.

I agree with most of what other people have said earlier in this thread, if you want true unlimited connection, Starlink is the way to go as I don't see our ISPs adopting bandwidth based plans anytime soon specially after seeing how hard they're pushing addons one after the other lately. The problem is, despite Elons claims, Gigabit fiber would outperform satellite based internet in almost every aspects, mostly in terms of reliability and latency.

Y'll are freaked out after seeing the $500 number up front, have you seen the taxes that you have to pay on top of that? + Shipping obviously, I doubt shipping companies would deliver such fairly large/heave package overseas for free.

And of course they'd have to go through TRC for licencing the frequency range they will be using and its in their hands whether to accept or reject Starlinks' application. Keep in mind that SLCustoms/IECD have all the rights in the world to control what comes in/goes out of the country, meaning if TRC did not permit Starlink to operate within SL, they'd restrict importing antenna kits.

I really do hope they make it to Sri Lanka somehow. The problem is our potential userbase is so low I doubt they'd go through all the hassle to make their service available for few thousand customers. On the other hand, if they somehow managed to operate within SL, I think SLT might consider slashing prices of existing plans or introduce new ones (knowing SLT, possibly with FUP of some kind). Competition is a good thing for customers.
