I think the main purpose of changing the name was, building up our own unique identity throughout the globe. It is true that it brings more pride and proud into our hearts when we say "Sri Lanka" other than Ceylon. but the name "Sri Lanka" does not go well products that we supply such as tea, rubber, cianamon.. etc. it is more convenient and goes together when we say Ceylon tea, Ceylon rubber, Ceylon cinnamon.

මම කැමතිම නම මෙතන නැති නිසා ceylon එකට කැමති උනා. 1815 සුද්ද බලෙන් අපේ රටේ පරිපාලන බලය අල්ලාගන්නා තෙක් මේ සුන්දර දුපත හැඳින්වුයේ "සිංහලේ" නමින්. එයට පෙර පැවති හෙළදීප, හෙළදිව ඊටවඩා අර්ථවත් නම් ලෙස සලකන්න පුළුවන්.
