What I mean as smooth is that no after effects. I never drink blended whiskeys. Single malt only with ice cubes and sometimes with a little bit of ice water. Even if you drink more than a half the bottle, the next morning you are fine.

You'd be ruining a good scotch if you add ice . Optimal taste only comes with room temperature

You ruin it if you add any mixers. A single malt is nice at room temperature. I agree with you. Its my personal preference to add ice. I like the cold. Ice doesn't ruin it.
I also keep the Vodka in the deep freezer. I don't take Vodka really, but my wife likes a Vodka Mule...

Also room temperature is a relative word. Depends on where you live..
eg Red wine is taken at room temperature. Not the room temperature in SL. Chill it for an hour in the fridge.
